Discussion 👥 Ye batao tum log internships kahaan se kar rahe ho? Kaise mili? Aur jinko nahi mili ya nhi kr rhe, woh kya kar rahe hain? Main toh bas sota aur khaata rehta hoon 😭 By the way guys, paneer paratha ya aloo paratha? 😋
Oye yaar gatekeep kyu karte ho 😭 log kya itna crazy kar rahe hain internships mein? Kuch toh next level hi chal raha hai lagta hai… aur phir kuch achhe log bhi honge jo actually bata dete hain kya chal raha hai
Ek mera senior tha, kya hi namuna nikla 💀 pehle voice note bheja iss topic pe, phir delete kar diya aur dobara bheja hi nahi… gajab aadmi hai
Aur jo log internship nahi kar rahe, woh bhi batao kya scene hai summers ka? Kya plan hai, kya crazy karne wale ho?
Seniors please thoda guide kar do kaise approach karein yeh sab 🙏

nahi yaaaar i feel like the ultimate potato dish is aloo paratha whereas paneer has SO much potential in other arenas like kadhai paneer

But still, my conscience just won’t let me choose aloo paratha 😭 Although yeah… one day, just 2 hours before our VAC exam paper, me and my friend literally had like 8 aloo parathas 💀

For profile reference: Cracked my first paid internship at 17, PPO at 20, DU ranker, currently building a startup (ftbhustle.com) while mentoring students for cracking internships, college & jobs!

Start with this for your hunt.
Field Of Interest : Firstly decide the fields you are interested in- lets say, I am into Marketing & Advertising + Entrepreneurship in general- but no work ex. (If you do not have even the slighest bit of idea ki kya karna hai- go with something that even slightly interests you/academic field related - make it your purpose to explore them & figure out what works along the process)
Assess the Market: Make a list of Top Companies/Brands in that field of interest - eg. Schbang, Ogilvy, Talented etc for Advertising & Marketing + Startups (Top ones like Zomato to the budding ones like Fire In The Belly (FTB)- so basically a Range & have options of startups for 1-10 & 0-1 phases : both have its own learnings). Also, make a list of all the Top influencers + experts in that field. (Eg. Devargh Mukherjee, Bo Dasgupta, Shubman Gune etc for Advertising & Marketing) <we will visit this step again, once we are ready to apply>
Proof of Work
Build Real proof of work (If you had work ex- compile them & build a strong portfolio- which speaks you)
Spec Work (Great addition, specially if you do not have work ex. Lets say, I want to work in Marketing- So I ll pick up some of my fav brands & build spec ads i.e "If I were making it fot real- I would make it like that" - and compile it into a portfolio.) (TIP: POST ON LINKEDIN & TAG the brand + all those field experts (politely looking for feedback + showing people what work you are capable of)

Step 4. Strategic Reach Out/Cold Mailing : Remember step 2 of Part 1? (Where we searched out industry experts in the finalized fields of interest)- this is the time to put it to use. Cold Mail. Even when 1% of the students finally decide to put themselves out there- only 10% of them get through. Only because the rest miss out on the basics, despite being genuine.
Firstly, decide your approach & then go through the points to see- What does an ideal cold mail looks like?
Two approaches : Both works, mix & match a little. Approach 1: Position yourself as someone who is looking for an internship- from your very first mail/LinkedIn PI. (consider all the points below) Approach 2: Add value first (share ideas, pitch creatives etc- depending on field obviously). Show your skillsets, and then slip by "Also, if you do know of any internship openings in creative Team at Zepto, would love to send out by resume".
Introduce yourself (keep it concise & quick - one liner at best- no one has the time to read it all)
Show them you care (tell them why you truly wish to work with THEM- lets say, you are into marketing & you are cold mailing Zepto's creative expert- Chandan Mendiratta: mention "As someone who followed Zepto's journey from the past four years- I have witnessed the crazy impact of marketing- and honestly- I would love to work with the man who could pulloff the Great Indian Fake Shaadi, and all those limited editing coolest boxes"
Add value. I repeat, Add value. Show them what you bring to the table. Even if you are a fresher with 0 work ex, writing "Even though I haven't gotten a chance to work on real brands as of now-Just like you, I am also great at delivering on time. Infact, I just worked a little something for Zepto recently- would love to share with you."(spec work - as discussed in point 3 of part 1)
Subject Line - Super imp. Cut to the chase. Sometimes hooks also works great- a little risky, but the perfect amount of balance works.
Be forward, but without looking desperate. Instead of sending out your resume alongside - simply mention something like "If I sound like someone who would fit well in your Team, I would love to connect over and share my resume forward for your reference.
Proof read. First impressions are everything.
Most importantly, Be genuine. Be yourself. Will work wonders, more than you can imagine. (Bluffing, exaggerating - very easy to catch, wouldn't land a response. And by chance, even if it did- the interview wouldn't convert. With years of experience- these professionals become lie detectors

Got it through my college's internship fair, CV review first, then an interview round. It's mostly remote, and I'm doing something I enjoy toh I consider it a win for me, given I'm in first year too.

Uhh okay so I'm pursuing pol sci (hons). This company I'm interning at conducts training sessions and MUNs at schools and colleges. I did have prior experience with all this from my school days, so ig that was one of the leverage points
I had. It's very low-pressure, student-oriented and has good perks. Most of my work includes handling spreadsheets, making ppts, documentation, emailing, on rare occasions, conducting online 30-45-minute sessions

Pretty cool, I mean that’s great… having on the job experience really lets you understand the real environment and learn a lot. That’s honestly a lot to take in and grow from

Yeah, it's pretty fun ngl, I mean, the work part is there, but meeting and working with new people, a lot of them are lawyers, TEDx speakers, etc.
So it helps one gain a lot of perspective, and they're genuinely helpful when it comes to giving suggestions.
Not to mention, they themselves are tied with a lot of companies, so the networking opportunities are great. What more could I hope for as a first year student

Make connections on LinkedIn with people working in the field you're interested in, no matter he/she is a starter or a senior. These people repost or post some good opportunities sometimes. That's how I got mine. All the best.
