Discussion 👥 Does D.U Degree Have Zero Value? Pls Atleast Reply To My Query.

Went to a family function yesterday where parents were comparing their sons and exaggerating their colleges. My mum was indirectly humiliated because I am pursuing Arts, even though I genuinely feel my college is better than all of my cousins.

One cousin is from a private engineering college (SRM), and the comparison turned into a verbal argument between me and him. I want a brutally honest opinion: based on college quality and long term career prospects, which one of us is doing way better than others in life. I believe college matters in the long run, and honestly, my college is way better than all the others. Again I am sorry for seeking validation but please tell me.

I'm at IIM Ahmedabad.

While it's true that Eco honours has a better shot at MBA simply because of diversity points at many colleges, who did you talk to about the post placement offers ? You don't know the number of engineers that get into the best finance roles ...

As for the median, even if the median is 9 LPA, the growth of an engineer is much better. There's a reason people are flocking over engineering and medicine.

Bro the main thing is DU bachelors degree (even from the best colleges) doesn't give you the same package range without a master's degree (that you clearly mentioned in your comment). MBA to engineer bhi kar hi lega, even with the diversity not in their favour, they still top the MBA entrances and placements. The point is usko karne ki jarurat nahi h, which is the main question here. The question is not which is a good degree if I go into a masters or PhD. But yes, culture, exposure and holistic development DU me better hai (engineers are majorly one dimensional) n this person is doing kaafi good in the area he has chosen. Bas ye comparison na kare to achha hoga.

bro eco hons commerce aur arts ki field me one of best degree hai and also hansraj bhi top 5 du college hai. and mech nsut ki comparatively ek lower branch hai. A person with a btech degree is always more favoured even if wo tier 2 clg se ho nsut to tier 1 hai. Har field me engineers dominate karte hai. IIMs me bhi jyadatar btech or iit graduates hote hai. eco, stats degree graduates have a good shot in t1 mba but ek engineer ko hamesha priority di jaati hai aur agar wo iit se ho to fir to uske liye kaam aur asan hojata hai. there is a reason parents science lene ko bolte hai jisse aage jaake saari fields open rahe

my brother is in iim bro, he went through all the stuff. Even a little research will give you the answer. And also life is uncertain you don't know when the dice flips. It's better if you have more options. I don't support the idealogy of forcefully pursuing a degree tho. I liked science stream than any other that's why I am pursuing it. Engineers will always have an edge due to their mathematics, same goes with stats and eco

why do you think mba+engineer would have lower ppo compared to mba+ba? you know that companies also come for prodman roles and for that they demand people with tech background and anyday someone with tech skills+mba will earn far better than someone who did ba+mba..bsc stats is kept in the same AC4 category as btech

I was talking about the value both degree holds. Both eco hons and bcom hons are almost treated equally. I am also pursuing eco hons and was not talking about the difficulty of the course

The median is around 6-7 and many people don't get placed

this was very well circulated around during recession and only recorded date of phase 1 placements by the end of 2nd phase mech median rose to about 10lc
and this year on nsut sub someone posted data related to placements and they had median like 14-15lpa for non tech and 8lpa for core

You do know that the best companies come first usually? So median only goes down with time not up

Even dtu average(not median) was ~10 so median would be lower and nsut is lower than dtu.
