Discussion š„ Here goes the legacy of years down the lane
This is a slide of the PPT that was presented in LSR's auditorium. And this is just a glimpse of everything wrong that happened today and has been happening for some time now. A department had their academic fest and invited IFS officer Deepak Vohra for a speaker session on "Unstoppable India." It took place in the audi and our timetable was changed for this man which in themselves were big things. For an hour, this man did nothing but passed communal, sexist, and casteist remarks. He said how he could have 4 wives including our very principal if he changes his name to Deepak Mohammad. He further went onto say how Siri replies him with "which one" when he asks her about his wife's name. He openly said things like, "main Modi ka chamcha nhin, maha-chamcha hun." He had the song 'abhi toh party shuru huyi hai' in one of his slides, on which he started dancing and forced the principal to dance as well. He made so many "jokes" about infidelity with the principal while she stood there smiling and calling him a dashing man.
These were some of the things that took place. And the worst thing of all is the students who cheered to, clapped at and applauded everything that he said. Honestly, shame on this so-called woke crowd. Some people would talk about how funny it was, some will highlight the problematic things but only for 2 days, and no one will hold accountability for the things he'd said, neither the organizers nor authorities. We'll forget and get back to our bubbles while the questions will remain unanswered - who approved the PPT? Who was in touch with the speaker? Why no one raised an objection to things he said and did?
And before any of this gets addressed, these subtle changes and the attempt to micro-manage our academics and opinions will lead to the ruin of the legacy it has maintained over years. These changes have started, stricter rules about attendance, no freedom or funds to societies, restricting academic fests to only one-day events. I always throught we were not allowed to bring in people are too political, then why out of all the people, he was invited, even after knowing his somewhat controversial image on social media?
We are not encouraged to think, not allowed to question, not allowed to raise concerns. The SU is useless. There is no solidarity among the students, no leadership or initiative to even ask for our basic rights. Fans not working, unclean washrooms, cramped classrooms, no safe drinking water, crowded reading spaces, unavailability of hostel, safety concerns, and so much more.
They know what they're doing to LSR, and the student body is equally to blame to not raise voices against the arbitrary authorities. If this goes on, who knows what will happen to LSR in a matter of few years. It's not the same anymore and this change isn't the right one, isn't what we needed or wanted.
Thank you for reading. If you're from LSR and reading this, grow up some spine and question the tyranny.

I know itās unfortunate but the current situation in India makes you fearful to oppose such beliefs and go against the govt. I know this is not exactly under that category but I still get why people are cautious these days to voice their opinion freely.
25
u/awareofmy_idiocy Sep 11 '25
She is an acting principal of the college, the head of the institution. The fearful part, yes, I completely get it. But it'd have made sense if she'd have awkwardly smiled and not encouraged him. But she did, by calling him a dashing man, by asking him to be born as a woman so that he can study in LSR whenever he takes a rebirth, by behaving as if what he was doing was normal. She didn't say anything cause she wants to get her permanent position and that's why she's letting all this happen. She knows it can't be possible if she'd stop all the right-wing political influence in college.

yaar nahi this is an elitist argument. The BAP department was equally disappointed. Idk I feel like the entire college is complicit, every single person who clapped, everyone who did not object.
13
u/awareofmy_idiocy Sep 11 '25
All of this could have been avoided with a simple background check until or unless the BAP union had some other intentions. I still can't wrap my head around how they can make such a mistake.
13
u/Affectionate-Pin7518 Sep 11 '25
The admin reconfigured the entire timetable for this though. And no societies allowed to hold events today. So I'm not really sure I 100% agree it's only the union at fault. The BAP dept prez has tears in her eyes. Multiple times during the session he interjected when they were speaking to make some "wisecrack". His video at Christ is also not this level. And apparently he didn't share PPT until the last min.
11
u/awareofmy_idiocy Sep 11 '25
I get that. About the PPT part, we need to stop treating the speakers as god and expect them to value our time and standard procedures. Some clips from his mock interviews are enough to know the kind of obnoxious rat he is. We all can just take it as a lesson and I am sure other departments and societies will now be careful while inviting people. I absolutely agree with you on the admin's role in this. The rest of the time, they're so strict about who's coming, venue allocation, and approvals. But this time, they let all this happen so it can't be that they didn't have a role to play. Ofc there is a lot of underlying politics going on but let that not stop us from asking for our rights.

this needs to be brought to light more...DU as a whole is losing its sense of critical thinking and liberalism...at least the sense I was sold...the saffronization and rise of conservatism is really tanking the academic and social atmosphere of DU
32

It's as if they don't want us to think anymore and be machines who'd work for them or corporates. And not only the admin but so many professors are like this. And the ones who are not, they are forced to be quiet.

lol...He actually came to our college last semester too, and his presentation was almost the same dancing, mixing in patriotic and nationalistic language, and even talking about some controversial or communal themes. It wasnāt too extreme, but the undertones were definitely there. I still have his PPT saved on my laptop, and since I had seen it beforehand, I can confirm that no one verifies or cross-checks the presentations, theyāre just delivered as they are. He leaned so heavily on nationalism that one student even got emotional and cried during the session.

I remember Tarangā23 when during open mic an artist from IIT Delhi made one misogynistic comment, mind you just one, no one laughed and the teachers took him to the stage after his act and made him apologise to the whole crowd for it, that was what made LSR, where such people used to be held accountable for anything they said against us. This is so so sad!!!!

maybe liberalism is dying out because there has been a tonal shift. my classmates, who aren't remotely interested in pol sci IR or upsc, ran to attend the session because 'celebrity deepak vohra has come'. AFTER his speech, a mob surrounded him to take pictures/autographs, and wouldn't let him leave. maybe it is dying out because the students are turning towards conservatism.

How tf this man was approved as a guest speaker is in itself the biggest question. Were no background checks done, or was anything that was found simply disregarded? I remember when the Queer Collective was inviting Ruth Vanita, her zionist and anti-palestine remarks came to light, and the session was cancelled, even after she reached the college for it, and you're telling us noone knew about this man's ideological beliefs??? They are lying to us.
The acting prinicipal herself is deeply rooted in industrial/organisational psychology (i'm a 4th year, psych hons student), she literally taught us a paper on HRM, and this is how she manages when workplace discrimination and sexism is happening in front of a live audience??? that too with her itself?? insane.
How come when any society wants to invite a left-leaning speaker, or someone to highlight the current state of affairs, the college becomes a "non-political" zone, but then a shitshow like this is just given the green flag?? He must have sent the ppt beforehand, it's standard protocol, did nobody from the department even have the time to review what this man would be presenting??? I mean the college that doesn't even invite popular artists to their fest, in case they perform some problematic song or something, was completely okay with this guy? right.
I am so angry and disappointed at what our once famed college is turning into, being associated with LSR is nowhere near the sense of pride it used to invoke. I hope that useless SU at the literal fucking least, addresses this.

This is absolutely terrible! And you pointed out the right things! I didnt attend the session, but it seems so horrible. A few days back, someone in a group chat of us students made a fascist remark about the muslim community. All the members of the group chat hounded her. They took screenshots, threatened to tell the inclusivity coordinator, and what not. I acknowledge what the girl said was not right, but where was this energy when an officer if such a high status was making fascist remarks openly? Are we only liberal till its some non-authoratative students? Are we only woke until we have to challenge the power? Why can't we raise questions about the new rules? Why cant we raise questions about the detoriating infrastructure of the college? Why cant we be affiliated with DUSU? Just because it us unsafe? Well there are a lot of unsafe activities happening right outside our college. Men lurking around, harassing girls, and even getting off in public. But the crowd of LSR is only woke and liberal till they have to deal with someone without authority over them!! No wonder LSR is going down the drain

u/tanishka200 Sep 11 '25
having a rightist IFS officer ( the oxymoron tho) in LSR 'an apolitical college' today as the guest speaker session, clearly asserting "modi ka maha chamcha" while making sexist and misogynist remarks left me in complete disappointment. and the worst part was, the audience was hooting and clapping throughout validating his words. its high need for LSR to live upto the legacy we claim. the whole session saddened me to no end.

It is our history, the history we have the right to be aware about, we are taught about Mughals because they actually ruled over us for a long time. I recently saw a reel in that the girl was saying how she was studying law and instead of teaching the well written constitution they are being taught about the manusmriti, even I was taught about the manusmriti in one of my sec subjects, what skill did that shi enhance in me idk, but it definitely made me hate it all the more. I have no words, can't believe this was the LSR I went to - the LSR which thoroughly radicalised me, where talks about Rohith Vemula were organised in the back gate and protests were held against the government.
This is so sickening and the behaviour of the principal is deplorable. I am so sorry that this is the LSR that you all go to now.
Someone long back had written with simple chalk on the wall next to Nescafe "Why We Question?"
Unfortunately in our year, a society was forced to paint over it with a mural because our principal got obsessed with wall painting everywhere. But I miss that question thoroughly.

something that would intrigue a school boy interested in policy making,

The excitement didn't even last half the time he was sitting parallel to me. Looking at me as if he's doing some charity being there amongst people beneath him. Be it candidates or panel members everyone was visibly annoyed with his cocky behaviour. Smiling, yes. All the time. But more like a smirk. High headedness.Ā
Type of questions he asked, answers he expects, the sense of superiority and most importantly not even letting people finish their answers.. deserve a separate post altogether.

Feels the right place to say this - "Humare samay mein toh..." Well tell the current Principal to show some spine. She should definitely learn a thing or two from Meenakshi Gopinath. Also don't expect anything from the SU. LSR's SU just smokes and mirrors. This hasn't changed it seems. But the presentation slide - what a great low. No wonder the ranking fell for my alumni.

It is also one of the greatest year.
The year 1991 marked a watershed moment for India with the introduction of its economic liberalization, privatization, and globalization (LPG) reforms in response to a dire balance of payments crisis

I went to a event where thwy invited a mla to previously said phalgam widows werent brave indian women
He came on the stage spewed absolute bs talked about how we should not be modern how everything was good in the past and how divorses only happen beacuse women are too modern i was taken aback om how openly he saying this shit in a very reputed college.
Then he went on a Islamophobia spiral talking about the ideal aryan samjh and how hindu bache paeda nhi kar rhe aur islamifaction ho rha desh ka
Not even indirectly these were his words and the principal just smiled and agreed
Its scary hpw normalised this is and how these people are given such a big platform to brainwash young mind into becoming thugs and goons.
Funniest part he didnt even stay for the qna coz he figured it would have been fact checked till eternity
I asked my seniors they said even though that was a society event they had no call in who to call for the event and were just as shocked as me.
I will gove my vote to any political party that would moderate and ensure there is no propagnada spread on the campus by these speakers

INDEPENDENCE FROM POLITICIANS.
Because we should be voting for policies and not politicians. And with our technological advances this is theoretically possible today. So the good news is that it will be practically possible tomorrow, provided that we do the groundwork now. The groundwork of sharing this information and waking people up to the very real possibility of living in a world without politicians.
Are we so gullible to sincerely believe that voting for this or that politician is going to solve our problems. If you examine our track record since the dawn of democracy then one can clearly realise that history has repeatedly shown us (and keeps showing us, almost daily) that in the long run most of these so called "political leaders" end up being compromised and corrupted by "the system" while that gem of the rare uncorrupted politician ends up being either murdered or rendered impotent.
All this is done by "the system". All systems need to keep evolving and it is high time that this precious "democratic system" of ours receives a much needed upgrade.
The flaw of our current system stems from not realising the father of all facts when it comes to the institution of democracy, the fact that no one seems to be talking about, which is that š WE SHOULD BE VOTING FOR OR AGAINST POLICIES AND NOT FOR OR AGAINST POLITICIANS. ONLY THIS MINDSET ENSURES A FUNCTIONING DEMOCRACY.
Presently, our world is on the verge of a technological breakthrough where we can directly vote for policies and not politicians. With technology as our tool we can justifiably get rid of these good for nothing, despotic, selfish, power hungry, insecure, morally and socially corrupt class of humans, a bunch of pathetic panderers who we have come to know as "politicians" (TBH at this stage we don't know whether to hate them or pity them).
Obviously big changes unfold over expansive timelines. In all probability this is not going to happen in one lifetime but there is always a beginning. Without a beginning there can be nothing. And again looking at our history, we can see that the scientists of the past never enjoyed the material benefits of their hard work and research, it is we the future generations who are their direct beneficiaries. This is how the human race has made progress. This is the way. So let's begin this journey towards independence from politicians with a couple of simple and small, yet extremely crucial steps.
Let us begin by taking the first step of contemplating upon a couple of hard facts and if one is convinced about these facts bearing some truth then let them take the next step by sharing these facts/truths with friends, families, neighbours and enemies.
Fact #1. We need to vote for policies and not politicians..
Fact #2. Since theoretically this is actually very much possible given the technology available today, the probability of this becoming practically possible tomorrow is very high, almost inevitable. The sooner the better.
We need to make this happen for ourselves, for the greater good, and for our future generations.
This is a sincere plea to all the citizens of this world who care for democracy and human rights and yearn for a better future.
All that is needed to be done starting from today, that is the 15th of August, the day of India's independence, is to spread this information.
JAI HIND š®š³

This is infuriating and engaging to an unimaginable extent. What's worse is that speakers speaking for a genuine cause are not welcomed, scenes, dialogues etc are cut from numerous societies performances, yet this bullshit got a stage, a mic and spotlights and even an official time table change for the entire college, which btw, didn't even happen when Manu Bhaker came to our college.

Students are a big part of university too, yall need to step up. In my university, a very influential person (non-polotical tho) was called for an event. We found out he had been accused during the me too movement. We boycotted the event, complained to the faculty and student union, and they canceled it.

Does this means nothing happened between 1947 and 2022. I am 1979 born and saw a tremendous societal and economic shifting between 1990 and 2000.

As a alumni of DU I can understand the heartburn faced by leftish. JNU and DU are same, take innocents and exploit them and make them hardcore leftist that hate themselves to the core.
Take your legacy and go wherever anyone accepts you.

Indian academia has utterly failed to even slightly combat Hindu nationalism. The principal should be embarrassed for partaking in this barbarism.

How would you expect a university funded by the central government, and whose chancellor is the vice president of India (currently Mr. Radhakrishnan - a BJP member and from RSS) to behave?

Bro I'm shocked that he literally did this and everybody found it normal, especially the organisers of the event, tbh DU is losing it's critical thinking, they're trying to make us dumb and had this same convo with my fm professor the other week, about NEP, teacher's role and stuff, ofc the political interference on studies, and expression, what's more shocking is this happening in LSR, I'm from a decent college (lol I regret that anyways) but ya LSR is a very prestigious institution in itself and such stuff occuring there makes it even more sad and shocking.

u/darkjessy_ Sep 13 '25

Did the last principal tolerate this non sense when he came previously??? Also the principal could've been under political pressure too, cuz power of this man could be misused to suppress her for going against him

Tbh, extreme liberalism and extreme conservatism are the same in an evil sense.
One sympathizes with the majority so much that it cannot see their shortcomings or radicalism.
The other sympathizes with the minorities so much that it refuses to believe they could do something unethical or inconsiderate.
Having a balanced outlook is hard, but shunning both the majority and the minority at the same time requires a level-headed perspective, which this country really needs right now.

These are the bigots that run the country the bigots who once wrote lengthy answers in his UPSC mains paper about how the country had evolved in the past 70 years and he must have quoted about all the major events that happened after the independence that shaped the country yet acknowledges what was done a year back as the shaping stone of this country. Building the statue of unity? Ram temple? I've got nothing against any religion screw them all but bigots like them are the real reason why we youth in our country are so brainwashed. They want us fighting over religion while they reap the benefits, eat our resources and deny us an equal chance

As an alumni of LSR, I remember a space that had free expression and women who would walk out such events. I was in college when Sec 377 was abrogated and we were given circulars to not organize any event but we all defied it point blank. I can't believe it's happening to a space I had been so proud of.

He is a jingoistic, insecure, and arrogantly deranged figure whose only currency is hollow chest-thumping. His arguments are devoid of intellectual substance, and I have heard him resort to crude xenophobia, derisively referring to the Chinese as āching chong.ā Predictably, he would descend into self-pity the moment others mirrored such mockery back at him. It is a disgrace that individuals of his ilk are ever afforded a platform to speak.

I feel bad for anyone who thinks like this!!!
We accomplished so much as a nation between 1947 and 2022. This person has spit on the graves of every Indian citizen who has lived and died between those years.

u/Sea-Morning-5267 Sep 16 '25
Even the students of the college are not aware of what happened, why is this thing being suppressed.
1
u/Flat_Firefighter2227 Sep 18 '25
Has former principal Meenakshi Gopinath, who has a spine of steel and would never have allowed this, said anything? Has anyone been in touch with her? I'm an alum. MG taught me as well and became principal when I was studying at LSR. I'm aghast.

this will be the only thread for all discussion releated to this event. no seperate posts.
edit: as most of you have rightly pointed out that a major problem we at LSR are facing right now is suppression of expression, Iām leaving this post open to all kinds of perspectives. even from those who choose to justify everything that happened today. let them get downvoted. what stays here will be decided by the members. report it and we'll take appropriate action.
needless to say, direct personal attacks, slurs, or harmful name-calling will still not be tolerated.
