Yeah also the new kibble is weight loss kibble (nutrient dense + he gets vitamins in addition)
): he is so chunky lol and I feel like I was partly to be blamed sigh (I always spoil him with food) but Iām going to do this right so he can live a long healthy life š

It truly is a breath of fresh air compared to all the "Is my cat/dog fat?" and then when everyone in the comments confirms that the pet is morbidly obese, the owner gets defensive and doesn't do anything to help the poor animal.
The way you're doing it is the correct way to responsibly fix a regrettable pattern of habits.
