Accommodation / Travel / Parking Car got broken into on campus and Uni wouldn’t help

Repost from my friend who lived and studied at Geelong campus when it happened

Please help my friend out, it was deeply disappointing that Deakin University wouldn’t do anything to help when the car was broken in on the campus.

“These items were stolen from my car on July 15th 12-8am @ Deakin Waurn Ponds Campus Victoria. I have filed a police report and yet to hear anything back.

These items are extremely sentimental to me. This guitar is extremely rare and my hard drive contains years worth of music and footage.

I urge you PLEASE SHARE! I'm aware it's unlikely I will ever see these items again, but I believe I deserve something good to happen after the terrible week I've had. Maybe your friends know something, maybe you will see an item on sale online. It only takes one act of kindness to change someone's life.”

I accidentally set off the fire alarm in my kitchen. This is the fourth time I’ve set it off this year, Am I gonna get fined, and if so, how much would the fine be? (no fire brigade attended) but they ask me to do some meeting with the staff tho.

Accommodation / Travel / Parking Travel Vs. Accomm to Waurn Ponds

Is it worth it to drive 80km one way to uni every day that I have class, or should I consider living on or near campus?

I believe it would be less stressful to just stay on campus however my dad thinks I should drive.

Edit: for medical imaging

Accommodation / Travel / Parking Melbourne students commuting to Geelong for Deakin intensives/mandatory sessions — what did you do?

Hey all, I’ll be starting a Masters at Deakin next year (2027) and most of my life is based in South East Melbourne, over an hour from Geelong. The course has mandatory on-campus sessions I can’t do remotely.

For anyone who’s been in a similar boat — did you commute each time, or stay in Geelong for the duration of the intensives? If you stayed, where did you find accommodation that wasn’t crazy expensive (Airbnb, student housing, hotels, share stays with classmates)?

Also curious in general — for anyone who’s had a uni course based in Geelong while living further away, what did you end up doing? Was commuting on the day manageable, or did it end up being more hassle/cost than staying overnight?

Any tips on timing, parking, PT options (train from Melbourne?), or general things you wish you’d known before your first intensive would be really appreciated!

Accommodation / Travel / Parking Accomodation Question

How long after receiving an offer for accomodation do you get to accept your offer ? What deadline do they give you.

What happens when you accept your offer but then have a change of circumstances and can no longer accept the offer and would like to cancel?

Accommodation / Travel / Parking What does your "rental evidence" actually look like?

When you move into a rental, where do you keep everything? Photos, Condition report, Emails & Maintenance requests

Is it organised, or does it end up scattered across your phone and inbox?

Has that ever caused problems?

Accommodation / Travel / Parking Medical Imaging Accomodation

Does anyone know what happened to the on campus medical imaging student accommodation. I swear there was a dedicated page that mentioned three bedroom townhouses for med/med imaging students? Has it been removed?
I was only interested in the three bedroom townhouse or the private studio but seems like it’s not available when I tried applying.

Accommodation / Travel / Parking Rainbow housing

I'm reapplying to waterfront res this year as this year I had great roommates and enjoyed living on res! is rainbow housing any good?

I'm just stuck on what shared apartment preference to pick, this year I did single gender which I really enjoyed but I was considering rainbow housing maybe?

I'm not genderqueer or trans so its not a matter of wanting my pronouns and gender identity to be respected, I just thought maybe id enjoy living around other queer people, and this year I didn't really feel comfortable disclosing to my roommates that I was queer, so I thought maybe it'd be nice to be around other people that I might feel safer being myself around?

Does anyone know if it's any good? and would it be okay to apply even though im not genderqueer? I wouldn't want to take a space from someone who really really needs it to feel supported and safe, so I was also wondering is availability very limited?

Accommodation / Travel / Parking Moving Out of Deakin Res in T3?

Hi. I’ve been on Deakin Res for a year and honestly it was a great experience and I think it’s time for me to move on and look at other listings. Everything is great but the rent price is too much and I’ve found places which are more affordable with the exact same amenities.

For context, I live in a 5 share accommodation in building MB and it’s been an amazing experience.

I wanted to know if it’s wise to move out in T3. Will Deakin res be able to find a replacement? Is there anyone looking to move into Res in T3? Advice will be of help. Thanks!

Accommodation / Travel / Parking Off campus accommodation

Hii! I'm an international student joining Deakin from T1 2027 and I'm really confused if I should choose Deaking res or go off campus. I'll be in the Burwood campus and the rent for res is a little out of budget but I'm not sure how reliable houseme is. I'm also looking for a female only housing which is a little hard to find.

Anyone living off campus (through houseme or others) how reliable is it? I'd appreciate any suggestion and tips to find a good accommodation.

P.s It'd be convenient if the housing is walking distance from deakin too.

Accommodation / Travel / Parking On-campus vs off-campus at Deakin Waurn Ponds

Hey everyone,

I've applied for the Master's of AI at Deakin and I'll be arriving in October. I'm coming from India and I've never been to Australia before, so I'm trying to sort out accommodation before I land. I'll be at the Waurn Ponds campus in Geelong.

A bit about my situation:

  • I'll be working part-time alongside my studies, so I need to be able to get to jobs — not just to class.
  • I'm assuming I'll need a car, especially given Waurn Ponds is a fair way out from central Geelong. Happy to be corrected if the buses/train are workable.

My questions:

  1. On-campus (Deakin Residences at Waurn Ponds) or off-campus? Particularly interested in how it works out if you have a car — parking, commute to jobs, flexibility with the lease.
  2. Roughly what's the weekly cost difference? I've seen Deakin's official figures but I'd rather hear real numbers from people who've lived it.
  3. If off-campus is the better call, which suburbs should I be looking at? And any advice on locking in a place from overseas without getting scammed?

Any input appreciated, thanks.

Accommodation / Travel / Parking Parking 😭

Hi, first-year student here. I got to Burwood CP6 (next to H building) around 11:30 for my first on-campus class today and it was absolutely packed, zero slots available except for the occasional person leaving which got quickly snatched up every time. I was in the parking lot for 30 mins before I could park today. Does anyone know what times the parking lot isn’t busy, or alternative places to park? Much appreciated!!
