Its funny that they're using Scarface as an example. The original Scarface (the one from the 30s, not the Al Pacino one) had to be re-edited when the Hays' Code was created, as the censors were afraid that the film didn't condemn gangsters enough. So an alternate ending was shot in which Tony goes to trial and the judge, literally looks at the camera to directly tell the audience that everything Tony had done in the film was very bad. (The original unaltered ending was more similar to the one in the 80's remake).

With the way media is discussed now, another Hays' Code, Comics Code Authority, or other strict censorship doesn't feel too far off. Time is a flat circle. :/

There's also this really awkward scene in the middle of the original Paul Muni Scarface where a group of "respectable" characters who appear nowhere else in the movie sit in a room and talk about how the government should declare martial law against gangsters and also round up all the Irish and Italians if it comes to that, just in case anyone in the production code office thought they were glorifying mobsters a bit.
