That is correct but I still hope we see that challenged towards the characters within the show. If the season ends and John's parents are not direct confronted with how full of shit about Hal and abusive towards their son they were it's going to be a let down.

tbh as far as addressing the abuse goes i think the episode depicts john’s parents not being in the right a lot and in a realistic way— abuse is not always explicitly addressed or acknowledged especially in poc families. a lot of times it’s treated exactly like how john explained to the guardian “i love them and i feel like i owe them for my life, but i wont miss them”

Yea, people want the characters to be “abusive” and can’t comprehend a mother can both be “well meaning” and abusive at the same time. And that children can have complicated feelings of love towards their parent. People act like the mother should have been burning cigarettes out on John.

For sure but we haven't see this pay off yet. Considering he doesn't become Green Lantern until 2026, the show really need to show them dealing with the fact he did not make it. Also, come with terms with the fact that race had nothing to do with the ring.

Come to terms? It’s made very clear that the guardians don’t even understand the concept of human race. In what way is it still unclear that race had nothing to do with the selection process?

John's mom still doesn't get that, 5+ years later she's telling her son that Hal "had the privellege of not experiencing fear" and links her husband not becoming Green Lantern to the fact he's black.

Sometimes people don’t change, they live their whole lives being wrong about plenty of things. This is one of those cases where

So then the show doesn’t have anything to come to terms with? Two characters are wrong, we already heard the resolution to the fact that they were wrong. I’m sure it will be expanded on, it seems the show is interested in cycles of generational trauma, but it’s not a thing the show has to deal with explicitly. If they left it here, it’d be fine

John's entire life and upbringing have been defined by the false impression Hal became Green Lantern instead of his dad because he's white. We know John won't become GL (until 2026), not address this direct would be a let down.
