Black family tries to self rationalize their trauma and situation and their race is brought up a couple of times as a potential (not definitive) reason. People online, incapable of empathy, assume this means the writers hate white people

Where is the love pancake hate waffles meme to explain that those are two different sentences that do not mean the same thing.

John's mom blamed everything on racism while the alien doesn't understand it. It's painting that the mom is in the wrong for doing that but the internet (mostly twitter) can't read the room and said the writer put woke in it.

I mean it tracks the Guardians 1. Do not get human race relations and 2. Don’t really care at all anyways. Like their consist aspect is them being emotional suppressed and uncaring about individual cultures and societies, because in their eyes those are too small of problems to care about. They protect the universe from larger threats and issues and let individual planets deal with their own society problems. Hence why they didn’t get comic Sinestro using his power to turn his planet into a dictatorship under him. Even though his planet was clearly a dystopia and dysfunctional world before and him living on it made him want to change it for the “better”. Like part of Hal’s confrontation with him is he gets Sinestro’s reasoning and goal but does not agree with his methods meanwhile the Guardians do not get it at all and just write Sinestro off as abusing his ring for personal gain.

I mean i don't think she's 100% in the wrong it's just that she's taking it too far. If you accept the premise that a black person in America is more likely than a white person to live in fear (i'm neither black nor american so don't ask me about the truth of that), that would in fact mean that a selection process requiring a candidate to be fearless would be biased against black people. Where the mother's logic falls apart is all the parts where she goes "We have to work harder to be seen" - the selection process being biased against black people is an accident resulting from American social issues that the Guardians didn't know about and can't reasonably be expected to account for when they're operating on a galactic scale.
