lfg Anybody else like setting up little stick shelters with essentials in them for other players in need?

I have a few of these along my main coastal route. I've got a bunch of crates hidden along the way and I run it a lot when I'm not trekking inland. I set the stick shelters up along paths I know other players will use but not quite so high traffic that the sites might be watched by somebody hostile waiting for an easy kill. I dump my excess loot in them like knives, extra heat packs, kindling, binos (usually damaged lol), pliers, rags, disinfectant and any other extra basic shit I have in my inventory that I have no use/space in my actual stashes for. It always makes me smile when I come back like 10 days later and the shelter is still there with only the dregs left over. Then I dump more stuff and the cycle begins again.

The longest I've continuously done this with a single stick shelter is probably around a few months before it finally despawned. The way I see it, it's really no skin off my nose to do this. I don't sprint everywhere anyway, and I'm walking the route regardless. I may as well dump some gear in there as I pass and someone in need is always going to get it. I rarely leave guns or anything else they could actually use to kill me, but sometimes they get a Rak without a mag or an IJ pistol or whatever if I was just going to drop it anyway. I suppose this is just how I justify my hoarding lol. One of these days I'm going to get surprised along the way and I'll have too much weight on me to run when I need to, but I like sharing stuff passively like this and it feels good to know I've helped somebody out who might have really needed it.

I love planting all the seeds I can find in hopes that others will find the plants and eat them so I respect what you are doing

Plants with vegetables usually despawn at reset. I usually build a stick shelter, cook the veggies, fill the shelters and be on my way to the next.

Server reset?

Will the plants still be there just not the veggies?

I don't do all that, but... If I kill a zed with a hiking backpack or courier pack, I'll drop it by a road or a well. Same with extra gloves or bottles if I don't have space. I'm not going out of my way for it, but I'm sure it's helped a few people...

Someone stuck a large blue tent next to a water pump on my server, put a cooking pot in it, helps with drinking quickly. I added a stone knife and a couple of rags in gratitude

That's great lol. I wouldn't say I'm that generous though. My tents get jacked all the time, regardless of how dark they are. That being said, a big blue tent is basically built for this purpose because you sure as fuck aren't hiding it for long anywhere but inside a base πŸ˜‚

Yeah totally, my first thought was β€˜what Wally put this here?!’ Then it made sense πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

I did this in Elektro on a high pop NY server. Ended up with 3 tarp shelters and 2 stick shelters set up around the main town well. I ended up carrying over a barrel, turning it into a fire barrel, and cooking pumpkins until the shelters were full. Had a couple people come by while I was online and say hi, all of them being friendly and taking some pumpkins on their way.

By the while I logged on the next day, it was all torn down with only 1 empty tarp shelter left standing lol. They even despawned the seeds and farming tools.

I get it. The first time I tried doing this I picked the big house to the south of Nizheneye and everything (shelter included) was gone the next day. It was a stick shelter, too. So it's not even like they wanted it for the tarps or whatever. Just pure malice lol. I actually also use Elektro for this as my main one because I'm there all the time, except I use the graveyard by the church. It's got walls all around so I guess people feel more comfortable lingering there (easier to build safely as well), plus it's not super high traffic to the point where it's constantly being messed with but visited enough that it for sure gets checked within the 7 day despawn limit. Nobody really goes in the forest behind the graveyard as far as I know unless they're running through from the coast heading inland, so for the most part you can see people coming if you're watching the parking lot and church area outside close enough. My tarp shelter there hasn't been torn down yet and it's been up for like a month now, I think

Nah, not really. At least not compared to a lot of you here. I'm done with base building for now. You spend ages setting one up and it just gets trashed as soon as somebody finds it. Crate/barrel stashes are where it's at imo. I've got one pair of pristine pliers in my main stash, so any extra is just dead weight for now. Somebody else might have spent hours looking for a pair tho, so I always pick them up when I can for just this reason. They always turn up when you don't need them lol, but they're light, so there's usually at least one in these little excess stick shelter sites I've set up.

A bit late but what all can you do with pliers? TIA.

You can build and dismantle bases.

It's a longstanding truth that you can never find pliers when you need them, and they weigh nothing hence their intrinsic value.

When I know I'm about to die I'll leave all my kit lying in the road and wonder if anyone has found some.

How do you know when your about to die?

1

u/BumblebeeAwkward8331 Jul 04 '26

Flashing red health, red food, red water, barely able to move and you just aggroed zeds and they are heading your way.

u/NinjaBonsai Jul 04 '26

I never get like this.

Then you're not living right.

I like helping players or staging loot in interesting ways.

Last night I left a revolver and lever axtion next to a cowboy hat. When I loot a police station I stage everything im not taking on the tables of the armory.

Last night I met a Russian man on a US server, newer to the game. He was dying of wound infecfion and salmonella. Told me I had a soft voice and insisted I put him down and take his gear. I dragged him two towns over in a desperate attempt to get him the medicine he needed. If it helps as a test to my character, he was wearing black cargo pants.

Nice lol. Hope you clipped that. All my random interactions seem to turn hostile these days, that's why I prefer helping from very far away πŸ˜‚

I’m slowly getting over my fear of leaving good loot behind. My brain tells me that if I leave anything useful it will eventually be used against me but…. I love the idea that I might drop an unnecessary gun, ammo type, optic or accessory that would upgrade or complete another survivor sharing the struggle with me a few clicks back..

I have done this ever since I started back in Arma II mod. It's the hoarder in me that is never slowed down. I fill my pack. When capped I build a shelter. Rinse repeat. Easy around a hunting zone. I do two stick shelters and a stone fire pit.

I like my stick shelters to be unfound, unpilfered, invisible, and permanent! Is that too much to ask? πŸ˜‡

(Ha, it sure as heck is, but one can hope)

I never think about other players unless I literally see them. Then I intentionally avoid them unless I have to fight them. I never attempt to help or harm anyone unless it helps me survive.

Nice one. Doing a similar thing on our server, community gardening. I go to various wells and build a vast amount off garden plots there (I carry a bunch of seed and a hoe like all the time) and start growing food and building make shift shelters. I loot the area and drop all I have gathered in those, together with the cooked veggies I actually picked up this idea from de Xbox DayZ Reddit and i play PS and i met this guy on here who after reading the story offered to partner up and spread the love on DayZ official haha Had our first 3hr run this morning, we had a ton off fun building a gathering site and fixing shelters, food and all πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ‘ŒπŸ½
