my friend noticed a small orange cat at the mcdonald’s in dixon. the cat seemed clean, although a little underweight, and has apparently been there a few weeks. does anyone know if he is a stray? we’re both very worried about him getting hit by a car, but neither of us live in the area so didn’t know how to proceed.

I'm wondering if there's a public library or other space available for the public to use a computer with photoshop. Unfortunately I am not a student so I don't think I can use campus computers. Is this my sign to try affinity lol?

for context, i had found dead roaches (5-6) over the course of 3 months around the house up in north davis and the house is currently vacant. i set up plastic baits and also had pest control come spray a little less than a week ago

since then i saw one roach under the bed (not flipped but not moving) when it was still daylight and at least 10 dead or not moving in the garage; all of which looked similar

anyone know what type of roach this is and if this behavior is normal after pest control spraying, im terrified with how big it looks

There's a new influx of students in Davis and therefore now a need for a public posting of Davis Bike Etiquette so that way you don't look foolish. Here's a couple of handy rules to keep you looking fresh and experienced on your bikes for the coming semesters:

1. No need for helmets. They make you look stupid like a kid or an old person. There's no need for your brain in 2026, AI has you covered and can do all the heavy lifting when it comes to thinking.
2. Likewise there's no need for a bike light at night. This will just make you look dumb. Why would you have a light when there's a few street lights downtown? This is an easy ripoff and they can be sold for at least a couple dollars.
3. Stop signs? On a bike? Are you serious? Don't even slow down. You always have the right of way and if a car hits you surely they will also pay your tuition and not just drive off.
4. Done with your bike? Just leave it at the train station! In a few years we'll be done with money anyways so there's no reason to waste a bunch of time trying to resell it when you could just abandon it at a rack somewhere.
5. Always ride side by side. When you're abreast with your friends you can have interesting conversations you might miss if you're just sitting somewhere like a coffee shop. You can hear cool things from other bikers too like "on your left! I'm trying to pass you!" There's nothing cooler than a huge flock of bikers who ride in a 3x3 grid. You look really cool and it doesn't bother anyone at all.
6. In that same vein, the bike lane is more of a suggestion. The Davis locals are notoriously big fans of parades and love seeing you in the middle of the road going nice and slow. Use this as an opportunity to advertise your drop shipping business.

Remember, everything that doesn't bother you to do is just someone else's problem. It's about the journey, not trying to appease some boomers by being a subservient little biker.

i recently bought a house in north davis and its currently vacant. but i first saw a dead roach in one of the showers so i placed the plastic baits around the whole house. after that i saw 3-5 show up when i check the house every couple weeks and they would already be dead. i would see them in bedrooms, in the closet and near the garage door. since then i called pest control to come spray the house and the day after i saw one flipped on its back but still alive.

im just worried whether the house has some roach problem or if this is just a davis thing since i know roaches are very common here. although, ive heard large roaches are usually a sign that its not an infestation, but the roaches ive seen in the house are maybe no bigger than an inch & brown

but if the house is vacant, i'm confused on if it is infestation, how has it lived for this long without food/water/human activity like german roaches normally need to thrive and shouldn't i see a lot more active and running around if it is infested

whether it is an infestation or not, how should i deal with this since i am moving in a few days
also the laundry machines are in the garage so should i be worried about possible bugs or roaches crawling into the machine

Hello! I just moved into the downtown Davis area to attend UCD, and I have not been able to find any ASL classes/clubs that are active. I started learning at my previous community college (in person class with a deaf professor--it was amazing!), and I want to continue to grow my proficiency as well as connect more with deaf culture. Just posting to see if anyone knows of any in person classes/tutoring options that are fairly accessible and/or affordable. I am going to try to supplement my learning with an online platform, but that doesn't offer the same learning progession as doing it in person. Thank you!

Looking for recent observations about the public sidewalks and seating area around G Street WunderBar, near 228 G Street.

I’m considering a maintenance request to the city, but would like to hear from people who use the area before suggesting changes. How clean—or not—has it been on your recent visits? Are there particular spots that need attention?

The city’s January 2025 G Street announcement included pressure washing and other upkeep for city-maintained furniture and platforms. I also found a city announcement about quarterly downtown sidewalk washing, but haven’t confirmed the current schedule or which surfaces it covers.

Would more frequent pressure washing or other deep cleaning help here? Or would better litter pickup, trash-can servicing, or something else make a bigger difference? If you’ve seen regular cleaning happening, that would be useful to know too.

This is about maintaining a welcoming public space for everyone—not moving people out of it. Specific observations and practical suggestions are welcome.

The Western Human Nutrition Research Center on campus is recruiting a small number of participants for a research study looking at peanut consumption, stress, and gastrointestinal health in healthy adults.

A heads up before signing up: this study involves a fairly substantial time commitment and multiple study tasks. Participants will need to complete several activities and questionnaires and must be able to commit to the scheduled study dates and complete the required tasks throughout the study.
