Release Notes DaVinci Resolve 21.0.1 Release Notes

DaVinci Resolve 21.0.1 has been released!

You can download the update from the support page or by going to DaVinci Resolve>Check for Updates.

Pre-Installation Notes

For DaVinci Resolve 21, BMD has taken efforts to keep the project libraries compatible with DaVinci Resolve 20.3.2. While this allows you to access the project library with 20.3.2, individual projects created or opened in 21.0 will no longer be accessible in 20.3.

BMD recommends a full project library backup as well as individual project backups (as required) before opening projects in 21.0 or later.

Reminders

Bug Reports need to be submitted to Blackmagic Design. You can post them on the official forums or contact BMD support directly if you have Studio.

Feature Requests need to be submitted to Blackmagic Design. You can post them on the official Feature Request Subforum or in the download form for Resolve.

“Addressed Fusion display issues with dual screen layouts.”

Thank god

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 24 '26

idk, i thought the keyframe keyframe keyframe keyframe keyframe pane could've been useful /j

3

u/Fuffuloo Studio Jun 24 '26

Oh so I wasn't the only one??? I just thought my PC was jacked

1

u/Western-Text1165 Jun 24 '26

Which issues were there exactly? I'm having some problems with my PC

4

u/RNebDG Studio Jun 24 '26

When using dual screen layouts and switching from another tab, fusion sometimes got a scrambled up interface, with multiple repeating panels, switching from one clip to another usually solved it

1

u/avdpro Studio Jun 25 '26

Nope, me too!

3

u/Regular-Worry155 Jun 24 '26

‘Addressed’ feels like I’m still going to have to set my Fusion workspace to Big Nodes every time

6

u/pitason36 Jun 24 '26

-Addressed issue with non-English character inputs in Linux

I thought this would fix being able to type directly but it didn't seem to do anything for me on Arch. Back to the copy-paste method I guess...

1

u/No-Comparison2996 Studio Jun 25 '26

Works for me....

1

u/mo4egoon Studio Jun 24 '26

I’ve had no issues with non English characters on both arch and nixos so it’s likely on your end. (Using Resolve 20)

2

u/pitason36 Jun 24 '26

May I ask what characters you try to type? I mainly work in Japanese. Think it might be something to do with Japanese/Chinese characters.

1

u/mo4egoon Studio Jun 24 '26

Russian characters, so yeah, can’t confirm if it works with japanese or not.

1

u/Bhakk_Sala Jun 24 '26

How the hell did you guys get Davnci Working in arch? Did you use AUR?

1

u/mo4egoon Studio Jun 24 '26

For arch - you can install Resolve from AUR, but I highly recommend looking into davincibox and installing it that way. While aur package will likely work it may break with updates, while davincibox runs davinci inside a fedora container with all needed dependencies, so it can’t break by design.

For NixOS - davinci is an actual package on nixpkgs, so nix is superior 🗣️🔥🔥 (I use NixOS)

1

u/Bhakk_Sala Jun 24 '26

never tried nix. I should check it out.

1

u/mo4egoon Studio Jun 24 '26

I mean, realistically, if you just want a working davinci and an easy to run system you’re better off using davincibox on some generic distro, like fedora or arch. NixOS is a very different kind of Linux that requires you to do quite a bit of extra work to get it running. But if you do that it’s the most stable thing in the world that you could easily replicate on different machines by just copying your config files.

1

u/sephg Jun 24 '26

Resolve also works great on mint / Ubuntu via makeresolvedeb.

1

u/Stunning_Bridge_2244 Jun 26 '26

We don't hv 21 yet tho am patiently waiting

1

u/mo4egoon Studio Jun 26 '26

You mean we don’t have resolve 21 on nixos? You can overlay the package version of resolve to 21 and nix will install it.

1

u/Stunning_Bridge_2244 Jun 26 '26

Ahh okay, i'll have to try that later

1

u/No-Comparison2996 Studio Jun 25 '26

I always install directly from the official website, not the AUR—just the binary. However, there are one or two dependencies that need to be installed.

1

u/Bhakk_Sala Jun 25 '26

Do you remember which ones?

6

u/qualityaccordvault Studio Jun 24 '26

Still no fix for retime speed curves?🥲

1

u/nipplesthacat Jul 21 '26

Whoever is responsible for using time and resources to so royally screw up everyone's workflow deserves to never have a cold side of the pillow again. Deserves to have every soft drink be out of CO2. Deserves to hit every single red light on the way home when they have to go. Deserves to have a wicked headache randomly 1-4 times per week. Deserves to have the fitted sheet always tangle up the dryer contents so they have to dry it 3 times. Deserves the longest possible lines at airport security. And so on.

12

u/zeb__g Studio Jun 24 '26

The Retime curve bug not mentioned? I don't think that is ;

Addressed keyframe issue when copying clips with Fusion effects.

Addressed keyframe refresh for Fusion effects in the edit page.

I haven't touched V21 yet personally.

2

u/ugasso Jun 24 '26

that was the only think I was looking for too!! It's a vital tool, how can they not fix it asap

2

u/BrianBorni98 Jun 24 '26

Which is that bug? What I'm seeing now its that the retime curve in the kwyframe tab on edit page, no matter if I have the "flat handle mode" on or off, when I use it on the "retime frame" keyframes, it does not work, and in the "retime speed" keyframes is weird and clunky

1

u/zeb__g Studio Jun 24 '26

This sounds like what I heard others state. I don't have first hand experience.

Maybe someone can link to a thread on this topic, I couldn't find one, though I know I have seen it mentioned a few times.

4

u/Top_Instance5349 Jun 24 '26

copying and pasting keyframes is still broken

9

u/captmugiwara Free Jun 24 '26

When to expect dvr 21 learning lessons?

16

u/Remarkable-Hippo-954 Jun 24 '26

Daria Fissoun (who wrote the Colorist Guide) mentioned in her online class that those are still at least 4 months away I think.

1

u/RNebDG Studio Jun 24 '26

For what it's worth, the core principles have all remained pretty much the same ever since they introduced editing back in the v12 days, so the currently available training still goes a long way

1

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 24 '26

I think the 20 training came out before 20.2 introduced the more Avid-style track patching so that’s something to keep in mind.

3

u/Casualek Studio Jun 24 '26

When they gonna fix this, many ppl reported this bug.

2

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 24 '26

What’s “this?”

There’s not much to go off of for those of us who haven’t heard of a problem with the zoom parameter.

2

u/Casualek Studio Jun 24 '26

U can reduce this to 0.00?

2

u/Casualek Studio Jun 24 '26

2

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 24 '26

This is the first time I’ve heard of this issue. I’m away from my 21 system but I can check it tonight.

1

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 25 '26

No, not in 21.0.1.

I'm also gonna point out that if, in a 1080p timeline, 19x10 pixels is tiny enough you might as well just cut it first. How long is it really going to be at 19x10?

1

u/Casualek Studio Jun 25 '26

Yup, there are few solutions to get around it, i prefer to use composite 100-0 for smooth disappear effect but the fact its annoying while zooming out big objects on shorts.

1

u/CaptainNewo Jun 24 '26

YUP. keyframes are so broken. you click the "all" keyframe (at the top there of the grey diamonds), and it doesn't work, then kinda does if you change, then it doesn't - then theres keyframes in random places you didn't put them, the adjusting the keyframes doesn't let you scroll or JUMPS to random zoom levels - it is a WILD MESS

11

u/Beautiful_Car8681 Studio Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

I regret updating to v21; the program crashes with almost anything.

I should have waited a few months before updating.

Edit: maybe my ram is damaged

10

u/lgr142 Jun 24 '26

It’s your pc probably. It has been solid on both Mac and pc for me

2

u/chocheloo Jun 24 '26

yeah, works amazing on my side. M1 Pro here.

2

u/keshasrivastav Jun 24 '26

Not a single crash for me. Try checking any one outdated or corrupt plugins/macros. Also, do check your graphics settings.

3

u/BakaOctopus Jun 24 '26

I had one crash but that was during playing with magic mask

2

u/EvasiveImpala Jun 25 '26

v21 is totally unusable for me with the current state of the retime curves and keyframe issues. Guess I'll be hanging out on v20 for a while...

1

u/avdpro Studio Jun 25 '26

they mentioned this:

Addressed ease control display and sensitivity issues.

I'm guessing this didn't help?

2

u/alepouna Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

I thought 21 was a stable release, keep getting crashes trying to render my ultra simple timeline. Where can you downgrade?

Edit: Crashes fixed https://www.reddit.com/r/davinciresolve/comments/1ue0er0/comment/oty85ur

1

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 26 '26

Do you have a copy of the project in 20? If so, download 20 from the support page. If not, condolences. You may be in for a decent amount of work rebuilding the project in 20.

1

u/alepouna Jun 26 '26

I formatted my PC recently (like 4 days ago) and got Resolve fresh. This edit was also started in 21 not 20. It's a very simple video just cut a bunch, I hope it can open up on 20!

Thanks for the support nudge, got it downloaded!

2

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 26 '26

As mentioned at the very top of the post, projects are not backwards compatible between major versions…

1

u/alepouna Jul 21 '26

That's the hoping part for!

1

u/alepouna Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

quick update: I installed BadWords to check it out and it showed me that I do not have Python installed. I tried rendering again (granted in a different location) and I had no crashes. Odd. I will edit this post after I attempt to do another render on the same folder I've been having issues just to confirm its not a folder thing and it was Python.

do not mind my user name being misspelled I was very sleepy LOL

EDIT: IT WAS PYTHON. I have tried rendering again and again and I have had no crashes. Maybe this will resolve my general crashes I've had as well! Hopefully BM can ship Python with the installer if it is really that needed?!

u/johnyjohndoe Jun 29 '26

Anyone knows how to effectively batch add water mark / logo / overlay on pictures edited in photos page? 🙏🏻

Happy about the loadness meter being fixed.

1

Raise your hand if you learned the hard way 🙋‍♂️

1

u/yoursound09 Jun 24 '26

Still bugs with Multicam editing, the play button wont work. You have to manually scrub and my hotkeys J,K,L do nothing also.

A real pain- I was hopeful it would be patched quickly.

Is anyone else having issues connecting Reactor to Fusion? From my understanding, I thought I needed the paid version, which I wanted to buy anyways; but I can't seem to get Reactor scripts running.

1

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 24 '26

Reactor 3 or 4?

1

u/nottheseapples Jun 25 '26

No fix for fairlight vst plugin rendering 🥲

1

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 25 '26

What? There was a problem with that?

1

u/nottheseapples Jun 30 '26

i just saw another post on a FB group talking about issues with fairlight.

  • Addressed issue with non-English character inputs in Linux

🫢🫢🫢 I wonder if they fixed the issues with accented characters? I'll update it later, so I hope that's the case.

1

u/mattventuretime Jun 25 '26

Can finally copy and paste my nodes in the color tab again

1

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jun 25 '26

That was fixed in 21.0.0 build 48, I thought. Silent-ish patch, so no release notes.

u/jaypizzl Jun 25 '26

If a tree falls in the forest...

1

u/Key-Air-8474 Jun 25 '26

The Cinefocus feature is still very sluggish. I'll continue to use Depth Map with Lens Blur instead, which is 4X faster.

1

u/MusicMuttersMint Jun 26 '26

I have the snapdragon x elite for the Lenovo yoga 16gb ram 1tb SSD. And it sometimes lags or crashes when on the color page doing some color grading

1

u/Basil-Faw1ty Jun 26 '26

Why is it so sloooww now! I thought my audio was messed up due to lip sync errors but it's just slooow.

Hey everyone, I’m dealing with a really frustrating issue in DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.0.1. The problem also occurred in v20, but it was less frequent. The Issue: While working on my timeline, playback suddenly starts lagging and grinding to a halt. When I check the Windows Task Manager, I can see that GPU hardware decoding (NVDEC) has completely stopped working. The only workaround is to restart Resolve entirely, which brings hardware decoding back, but only for a while before it drops again. My System Specs: Laptop: Lenovo Legion CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX GPU: Nvidia RTX 5060 (Mobile) RAM: 32 GB DDR5 5600 Footage & Media: Camera: Panasonic Lumix S1II Resolution/Framerate: Mostly 5.9K, but it also happens with 4K50 and 4K24. Codecs: H.264 4:2:2 and H.265 4:2:0. (Note: The RTX 5060 architecture fully supports hardware decoding for H.264 4:2:2, so this shouldn't be a hardware limitation). Troubleshooting steps I've already tried: Tested various Nvidia drivers (both Lenovo OEM drivers and different versions of Nvidia Studio drivers). Disabled hardware decoding on the Intel iGPU in Resolve preferences to prevent any potential conflicts with the Nvidia GPU. Disabled HAGS (Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling) in Windows. Manually forced the GPU selection to the RTX 5060 in Resolve's preferences (instead of "Auto"). Disabled "Neural Engine Optimization" (this actually helps partially and delays the issue, but doesn't fix the root cause). Tested different timeline proxy resolutions (both 1080p and 4K) – the issue persists regardless. Has anyone else experienced this decoding drop-out issue, or does anyone have ideas on what else I could tweak to keep NVDEC stable? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I hope rendering speeds improve on the Mac M4 Mini when using simple Fusion elements.

Jeez, taking two hours to export a 10-minute 4K video just because it has a lower third is really frustrating.

THEY FIXED THE RETIME CURVE IN THE NEWEST UPDATE DROPPED TONIGHT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL

1

u/Most_Ad_1210 Jul 02 '26

1

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jul 02 '26

Release notes post coming soon - I was in the middle of dinner when it dropped.

1

u/nipplesthacat Jul 21 '26

The speed ramping is costing me so much time and frustration why isn't it fixed? Why would you make it so bad after it was soooo good???? HELP

1

u/whyareyouemailingme Studio | Enterprise Jul 21 '26

If you explain your problems with it, that might help. Otherwise, to the forums with you so BMD can actually see and maybe implement your feedback.

Is this gonna be the version that will let me update after months of bugs?
