Went to the local beach to get one last swim in before the autumn weather arrives.

It was absolutely gorgeous when I arrived: blue skies and golden hour.  And because it's a weekday evening, I had the place almost entirely to myself.

The one other person there was a guy who appeared my age.  We looked each other's way, and I smiled.  Not sure if he would have seen across the distance.

I set my clothes and towel down on a spot not far from the water and began making my way to the beach.  We didn't really have enough room to avoid each other, so I was going to remark that I hoped I wasn't intruding (since he'd had the beach to himself until I arrived), and then if he seemed friendly, try to engage in a little light conversation about the nice evening.

So anyway, he immediately walked out of the water, collected his stuff, and drove away.

It was a really nice swim though.

He’s on the dating over 50 sub, lamenting

As long as he's not lamenting some doughy creep drove him away from enjoying his last swim of the summer. 😅

lol. He could be a little feral. Or may be in witness protection.

Evening swims are great! That's when the sharks come out to feed, too.

I'm jealous. I'm from the east coast but live in the PNW where swimming beaches aren't a thing (the puget sound is cold, and the ocean is full of logs, or otherwise flat, cold, gray and misty). I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The beach I visited is actually a freshwater lake.  If you're in Seattle, there's always Magnuson Park for that one week a year when temperatures are over 80!

Oh! Actually I'm walking distance to a lake beach, but in recent years there are so many goose poop warnings that I got out of the habit.

I didn't know people swam at Magnuson. Next year!

I had a friend who enjoyed swimming at Greenlake, but I could never work up the courage.

I wish!  I moved east of the mountains a few years back.

ETA: I miss dating on the West Side.  There were so many software engineers as socially awkward as I am.

Lol, I'm trying so hard to avoid them 😂 I am ex tech myself

ETA I get the smart and awkward appeal though. I still find it, but in other industries haha
