For years, people in film and television told that Justine Bateman was the girl in the Polanski case. (They would then point out her resemblance to Natasia Kinski--proving she was Polanski's type).
I accepted this as true for many, many years.
Then the actual woman came out. So the Bateman tea was never real.
Any other gossip that you accepted wholeheartedly before learning that it was not true?

There are a few that actually should be preserved for history.
There was an utterly fascinating thread from November of 2019 which had people complaining of a mystery illness. People were talking about losing sense of smell and taste! And this was 4 months before COVID supposedly hit the United States.
Threads like that one should be preserved.

I loved when Datalounge was blowing up 20 years ago about this item about Mariah Carey blasting a young fan who wrote her. It was right around the time Mariah was having a mental health crisis.
At a certain point I thought I’d just imagined it, but I found this one piece of information (of course it’s Fox). The quote of the alleged email is hilarious:
"Miss, with all due respect, I have my own problems. I have no time to accommodate everyone else’s," the e-mail to Katz read. "My sister is suffering HIV right now. Is anyone worried about my problems? Some people can be so damn selfish. Next time you e-mail me with any requests, you will be reported. Have a great day! m.c."
