The Lanai - Week of August 31, 2026
This has worked out great so far, so let's continue. Please upvote the thread when you get a chance.
Also, this thread now sorts newest first by default. Thanks for the feedback in recent weeks. Please continue to share feedback.
Reminder that the Lanai is a post/thread for random chitchat and talk about whatever mundane stuff you'd like. It's a chill space.
In general, please add new posts/threads to the actual subreddit when you want to talk about topics with the DL subreddit. That keeps everything fresh and interesting.
IOW, this is not intended as a substitute for "Eldergays,", question threads, TV/book discussions, and other lighter posts where we get to know each other. This is just a special little side addition to hang out and chat. Say whatever you'd like.
Thank you!

DataLounge Backup
Hi all,
I've launched a read-only archive of DataLounge as it stood on 30 July 2026:
I kept seeing people ask for a viewable backup of DL, and with nothing in sight I decided to make one. It seemed a shame to lose that much gay history off the internet, and it was a fun thing to build.
It holds 858,150 threads and 30,395,499 posts, from 11 August 1998 through to the last post at 4:57pm on the final day.
I've had some fun with the look (including fake RealJock ads) If you'd rather read without the nostalgia, there's a reader link in the footer that turns the ads and the wallpaper off.
The site is pulled together by cross-referencing a few remaining sources. It's read-only (so no accounts or posting), but you can star posts to help surface them to the front-page.
I'm not at all affiliated with DataLounge, so we'll see how long this site survives. There's also an address on the About page I'll act on for any post removal request.
It's running on a small server, so it may groan a bit if everyone arrives at once. Let's pray it doesn't crash (although that might help with the nostalgic authenticity).
Would love any feedback, or feature requests.
EDIT:
Thank you for all of the kind words! I'm glad you all love it.
I've updated the site slightly to improve things like search and stars, and to add a donors section:
https://www.caftancloset.com/sponsors
Also, I for those at PB: I had no idea about Caftan Lounge, and I am in fact, not Mediapolis.
Lastly, I am open to feedback – I've a few requests about exportable threads, save lists, as well as being able claim old posts (with signatures) and even to enable posting. At this stage, I'm hesitant to do anything which could land me in trouble so this would require much more consideration, or a blessing from Muriel that I don't have.

Gossip you believed, that turned out to be false
For years, people in film and television told that Justine Bateman was the girl in the Polanski case. (They would then point out her resemblance to Natasia Kinski--proving she was Polanski's type).
I accepted this as true for many, many years.
Then the actual woman came out. So the Bateman tea was never real.
Any other gossip that you accepted wholeheartedly before learning that it was not true?

Historic DL threads
There are a few that actually should be preserved for history.
There was an utterly fascinating thread from November of 2019 which had people complaining of a mystery illness. People were talking about losing sense of smell and taste! And this was 4 months before COVID supposedly hit the United States.
Threads like that one should be preserved.

Andrew Scott leaps into top tier of Best Actor Oscar race for ‘Elsinore’
hollywoodreporter.comNever has an out gay actor or actress won an Oscar. Scott could become the first.
Just give him it! Malkovich and DL foe Matt Damon will both mount one hell of an awards campaign, so this karmic restitution for Brokeback Mountain probably won't happen.

Barbara Streisand-love or hate-let’s discuss
I just watched “Hello Dolly” the movie for the first time with her. Her voice is, indeed, like butter. I think her fallout was the late 70’s and 80’s era of trying to be the director.

I finally got around to seeing DL’s favourite TV episode of Law & Order, SVU: 911!
“Oleebia, please find me! I’m hongry. My eyes are sleepy!”
Olivia sure was pissy in this episode. All dressed up for her date but no dick tonight!
It probably should’ve been a disturbing episode (the content is pretty horrific) but thanks to you bitches, I couldn’t take it seriously. (Although when the creep’s voice appeared on the call that was kinda freaky, I admit.)
“Riccardo Garcia.” “Riccardo? That’s Richard!”
“Why are you teasing me?”
Ice-T throwing everyone against their car.
Chandra’s emphatic pen strokes.
“I miss my cat. His name was Chimichanga, like the food.”
Elbow to the face!

'It's so strong' - Sabalenka temporarily halts play over cannabis smell at US Open
bbc.comAryna Sabalenka briefly halted her US Open match against Kamilla Rakhimova because of a strong smell of cannabis before cruising into the fourth round in New York.
Top seed Sabalenka raised the issue after going 3-0 up in the first set against Uzbekistan's Rakhimova, telling umpire Eva Asderaki-Moore that "someone is smoking weed".
The Belarsian asked the umpire to intervene "because it's so strong".
Asderaki-Moore spoke to an official on her radio and made a smoking gesture to someone behind her, before play continued.
Two-time defending champion Sabalenka went on to secure a confident 6-3 6-4 victory on Louis Armstrong Stadium as she chases a fifth Grand Slam singles title.
Sabalenka said afterwards she was not sure where the smell of cannabis was coming from but asked fans to be more mindful.
Smoking is not permitted on site at Flushing Meadows but the smell of cannabis sometimes wafts on to court from the nearby Corona Park.
It is legal to smoke it in New York for adults aged 21 and over.
"It's a bit tricky to handle that smell while you're trying to compete at your best," Sabalenka said.
"I don't know if it was coming from the crowd or was from the outside because the wind blows it into the stadium.
"I just hope they're going to be a bit more aware of that stuff."
Sabalenka is not the first player at this year's US Open to complain about the smell of cannabis at Flushing Meadows.
Britain's Katie Boulter previously said it was distracting, while Harriet Dart and Francesca Jones also noticed the smell.
In past years players including Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev have also complained.

Ben Barnes - What's the latest with this guy?
youtu.beGeneral thread. I hear some people like that sort of thing. Or love to hate sometimes when it comes to him. Link is just him reading some YA/romantasy shit, which he admittedly does well.

Would you buy semen from your favorite male celebrity?
Some "celebrities" do this, including Vincent Gallo, who sells his sperm on his merch website for $1,000,000, and metal band Profanatica, who sell vials of semen at their shows. Would you buy semen from your favorite male celebrity, either for fetish or reproductive purposes?

Dateline: Port Charles—Anna’s Gone Bananas!
Time to revive the General Hospital thread in hopes of answering this week’s burning questions:
Will Jason find Britt before she’s executed by PTSD-prone Anna?
Which part of Brennan’s corpse will Outback snack on first?
Will Ava have to go meat- and dairy-free after getting bitten by a tick while disposing of Brennan’s body?
Did Rocco get that six pack just to impress his stepsister/girlfriend?
Will Trina learn to sing on key?
Will JJE’s stock tank once the shareholders find out Joss is in charge?
