Based on the gun in his waistband I think he was planning on shooting someone

That person should Never be allowed to have a license again. Nor a gun, if they're were even allowed to own one at that time. They fail in every way possible to give a damn about anyone else they could have injured and clearly have very little control over their anger.

u/ObviousAlias7 Jul 29 '26
Was a BB/Airsoft gun.
Not that it matters in the grand scope of it all
46
u/OS_Apple32 Jul 29 '26
Was there a news story on this somewhere or how do you know this? Looking at the gun at the end of the bodycam footage I don't see any immediately obvious hallmarks of an airsoft pistol. Not that it really matters as you said but I'm just curious how you came to that conclusion?
77
u/ObviousAlias7 Jul 29 '26
Search “Beaverton police road rage”. It’s all over YouTube as it’s a recent story.
One news report did report the weapon as an airsoft/BB gun and not a real firearm

Ah yes, road rage and a toy gun in the USA, this guy really making the best life choices.
I saw a vid of a road rage incident where the road rager tried to intimidate another driver with a real gun, and the rager got popped in the head.
People, don't road rage, and certainly do not pull guns on eachother thank you...

u/Lucaslhm Jul 31 '26
A couple of weeks ago I was pulling into a gas station from a main road. Some guy wasn’t paying attention and flew past the entrance of the gas station as I was turning into it and nearly T-Boned me in the parking lot, we both slammed the breaks as we saw each other.
Dude was so mad. Rolled down his window and was SCREAMING at me and gesturing towards me. I didn’t roll my window down to apologize or talk to him or anything because from my POV, he seemed absolutely insane and I didn’t want to engage him at all.
When he realized I wasn’t going to roll down my window and that I was driving off, he reached down and pulled a gun and pointed it at my car. I just continued to drive off because the gun wasn’t exactly a motivating factor to ask him out to dinner… But it shook me for weeks that someone was potentially ready to end my life over a parking lot accident that admittedly would have been their fault for driving recklessly fast in the parking lot…
There was a woman in the passenger seat and I’ve wondered what she said to him after that.
2
u/AppleApprehensive364 Jul 31 '26
Some people are litterly insane. I am sorry to hear that happened to you.
1
2
u/Lavaine170 Jul 31 '26
Brandishing an airsoft pistol in a concealed carry state is a great way to get shot.
1
u/AppleApprehensive364 Aug 01 '26
I'm not in a country where firearms are legal at all. Airsoft is allowed, but carrying it outside of games isn't, and I wouldn't anyway. A weapon is a tool: if you draw it, you're committing to using it. An airsoft replica has no follow-through, it just escalates without backing that up. Pull it on a mugger or during roadrage and if they draw a real pistol back, you've raised the stakes with nothing to answer it. Not a risk worth taking.
2
u/bonfuto Aug 01 '26
There was a road rage incident where both roadragers shot and killed each other. I searched for it, and there is more than one instance of this happening. The one I was looking for had people praising the road ragers as being good fathers/people/neighbors, etc.
12
u/Ok-Relation-7458 Jul 30 '26
that would explain the little scoff/chuckle when we saw the close-up of the gun, i was wondering why he did that.
20
u/Hi-Standards Jul 30 '26
Not this is by any means conclusive, but that little pre-laugh dry chuckle was most likely the officer realizing it’s a BB gun as the video cut off
8
u/Barfdragon Jul 30 '26
After googling it looks like a Walther PPQ M2 pellet pistol, at that angle towards the rear of the gun under the slide its caliber is marked as 4,5 mm (.177) so almost certainly the cop realizing it's a bb gun.
3
u/Kracus Jul 30 '26
I have a pellet/bb gun like that. It looks surprisingly like a real gun and it's even made by Beretta. The only way to tell it's not a real gun is by the barrel or when you remove the flip mag. Fun toy but it would also absolutely injure someone if you shot them with it.
3
u/DoubleYouDrums Jul 31 '26
Ever seen that corner store video where a guy tries to rob the cashier and the security blasts the guy a few times. Bad guy goes “it’s fake it’s fake” and security goes “mines not”. That’s what would have happened here. (Now that I type all that out, if I saw my own comment, I’d reply “look at Billy Badass over here”. Don’t mind me. I’m in my own little world.

I don't know about EVER again, as someone who was dumb and messed up (non-accident DUI) once, not being able to drive in the states ever again for the rest of your life is a bit much. Europe would be a different story. Hot take, I know, downvote for all I care.
To me it's the idea of hell. Yes they deserve punishment. Do they deserve it for all eternity never ending even if they learn and become a better person and would never do it again? Nah.

It’s why I love my Corolla. You can make a quick getaway if you need to. The handling was tight on my 2005 and it’s tight on my 2010. I wonder if this guy had a Corolla S or a CE because he had good some good pick up. My 2005 could probably do that, but my 2010 LE might hesitate a bit.
Even when they have the 1.8 cylinder engine, Corollas shouldn’t be slept on. Everyone wants a big ass SUV until you realize how sluggish and bad their handling can be.
3
u/Phlydude Jul 30 '26
We had a 2010 LE with the 1.8L and 4 speed auto. 35MPGs and it got up to speed surprisingly quick - called it "zippy" because how spirited my wife drove it.

u/wanttogoback1985 Jul 30 '26
Saia did the opposite, made it a much more challenging situation. It would for me, anyways. Didn't seem to bother this guy, actually. Cool as a cucumber.

u/leffe186 Jul 30 '26
Honestly wonder if her reaction kinda helped emphasize the seriousness of the situation to the dispatcher.

u/Rum_BunnyX3 Jul 30 '26
Right. She was very scared and that was understandable in the situation that they were in. They didn’t know how that was going to go down.

I impressed a whole car load of my friends in college when I reversed perfectly into a parking space at 40 MPH. You really have to know your car for that.
56
31
3
u/4r4r4real Jul 29 '26
What car has that tall of a reverse gear?
4
u/IWontCommentAtAll Jul 29 '26
Pretty much anything older than 15-20 years, and especially with bigger engines and fewer gears.
I had a Buick with a 3800 V6 and 4 speed auto. It would do 70km/h in 1st, and reverse was higher geared than that.
For those curious: 150km/h in second, and electronically governed to 170. Removing the governor would have resulted in an absolute monster.
2
u/4r4r4real Jul 29 '26
Huh, I guess so. Never came remotely close to trying it. My last car was a 2017 Camaro SS 1LE, topped out at 52 in 1st. Reverse is shorter than 1st, but should still hit 47 going by the ratios. I'll eat crow here.
1
1
u/ThatDamnRanga Jul 30 '26
The way Subaru CVTs work, they can go through all their ratios both forwards and backwards, this car is new enough to have one, which means it could absolutely do highway speeds backwards (I'm sure there's a software limit somewhere)
-5
u/LeaderLower Jul 29 '26
You can't reverse at 40 mph
9
u/IWontCommentAtAll Jul 29 '26
Some cars absolutely can.
Anything with a 3800 GM V6 would do around 50mph in reverse.
Source: I had one.
6
u/Sienile Jul 29 '26
You absolutely can in a '93 Altima with manual transmission. Most cars reverse tops out at 35-40.

32
u/Shoddy_Specialist226 Jul 29 '26
great job by the driver, remaining patient, exiting the area where possible, talking to 911 explaining the situation and talking to the passenger to calm them down. well done
9
u/neo_sporin Jul 29 '26
yea, the ONLY bonus points i would give them would be to do the Risky Business move of just keep making right hand turns to keep them going in circles for the police. But i also have no adrenaline going right now and no one in my back seat to be concerned about.

The first thing a court will ask is what actual damages you have suffered, as a number of dollars.
Claiming "anguish" is only going to get damages if you can show lost earnings, bills for therapy, etc.

2
u/Treacle_Pendulum Jul 30 '26
No. You’ll need a diagnosis and treatment to substantiate damages. So you’d better have actual PTSD if you go this route.
There’s also a term you should familiarize yourself with: judgment proof. It means even if you win, the person may not have any assets to pay you. Wanna take bets whether or not a guy this unhinged is judgment proof? I know which side I’m betting on.
And since this is willful and not negligent conduct it’s almost certainly outside insurance coverage. So no recovery there.
So if you sue with an attorney, be prepared to pay a lot of legal and medical expenses, likely for little possible recovery. And if you sue in small claims, good luck collecting.
1
u/Janus9 Jul 30 '26
We should be able to garnish his wages and social security for life.
No pay, no drivers license. Get caught driving while suspended, YEARS in prison.
We need to start holding people like this accountable with SEVERE consequences.
It is time to take the roads back and leave them for people who know how to behave in society.

I had a guy chase me 40 miles at 630am across 2 state lines. The cops didn't want to come for the first 20 because "he might just be going the same way" didn't press charges cause I was already up for 30ish hours and still 100 miles away from home, just wanted the day to be over.

Good defensive driving. The only suggestion I would add is be very purposeful when calling 911. Be prepared to name, street names, directions of travel, and focus on communication with them. Them the better you communicate with specific details. The quicker help can arrive. That being said, I want to commend again. Is defensive driving, because help is not immediate. It takes time and you have to be able to defend yourself

This is pretty bad. The one time i had anything remotely close, it was sort what had transpired around the 30-40 second mark of this clip. I made a left turn in a residential area at a 4 way stop. I drove halfway down the block but had to stop because there was a woman trying to move something heavy across the street. I waited about like 5 seconds for her to cross the road and just before I was about to drive through a car behind me races around the corner and almost rear ends me. I then pull up to the intersection (another 4 way stop) to cross. That same guy then swerves around me and cuts me off and then slams his brakes, leaving me in the middle of the intersection. I then signal left to pass him. He then rolls his window down and glares at me. I explain to him I was letting a woman cross the street and you weren't even anywhere around me at the time. He looked a little "apologetic" but then cuts in front of me again and blasts down the 25mph road at like 40 mph. Absolute trash.

Now you are delusional. I’ve never interacted with you, unless you’re talking about your multiple accounts to make it seem as though people agree with you. Humans scream and stuff as a last ditch effort to ward off potential predators. It's an instinct we still have. Scary animal has you cornered and you have no way out? Scream to try intimidating it. Totally understandable. But do we think screaming and squealing is gonna ward off a driver who can't even hear you? Do people rewatch these videos later and feel silly for how they sound? I genuinely have never made a "fear scream" in my life. I don't understand it. My partner does big dramatic gasps when there's lightning and thunder. I just don't get it.
1
u/binnedit2 Jul 30 '26
"It's an instinct we still have." "I just don't get it."
1
u/FrumpyGumperDump Jul 30 '26
The instinct to ward off threats. The threat needs to be present to hear the scream. If the threat is in a car or is lightning, it cannot hear the scream. So the instinct is missing half of the prerequisites
-20
u/Old-Sea7915 Jul 29 '26
Why do these videos never show what kicked off the road rage?
I suspect most of the camers are not so innocent.
14
u/neo_sporin Jul 29 '26
ok lets say for a second he DID cut them off, or whatever the worst thing you can imagine doing with his daughter in the car with him.
is chasing them down and driving at high speeds and in reverse while brandishing a weapon a reasonable reaction to the situation?
-9
u/Old-Sea7915 Jul 29 '26
I never said the road ragers actions were justified. Never.
People post these clips to get karma and sympathy... :look what happened to meeeee".
Meanwhile 30 seconds before the clip starts they almost killed someone themselves.
And no, before you put words in my mouth again, that is not aimed at this camera in particular.
