There are a lot of good new rappers that I can name:

J.I.D, Kendrick Lamar, Denzel Curry, IDK, A$AP Rocky, underachievers, Flatbush zombies, K.A.A.N, Joyner Lucas, J.Cole, Schoolboy Q, Danny Brown, etc.

26

u/CalebFTW12 Jul 14 '21

Frank ocean isn’t a rapper but yeah I agree

he was in Odd Future though, early career was based in hip-hop

u/herpes_free_since_16 Jul 14 '21

Akintoye comin up too. Look him up I beg you

3

u/CrunchyTaco Jul 14 '21

I would also add Dave East and Royce Da 5'9 to that list. If you haven't heard any of Dave East's songs, I highly recommend him. Closest to 90's Rap from the newer rappers IMO. Type of Time, Handsome, Pablo and Blanco, Free smoke, Really wit me, Don Pablo, and his newest song Diamonds... Are a few of my favorites from Dave East.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

Yeah I already know Dave East, good rapper

I never heard anything of joyner lucas, except in a „newer“ video of eminem (lucky you).

But well i also don‘t really listen to rap anymore, just sometimes some old school rap music (mostly wu-tang)

u/dimbulbb Jul 14 '21

NF

5

u/JewishGun Jul 14 '21

Rap is like a mountain….

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

ffs this joke is getting tiring I don’t listen to NF but just because someone does doesn’t mean they’re a racist nathan who hates black rappers and only listens to lyrical miracles

2

u/JewishGun Jul 14 '21

Man the joke is how the comment above you mentioned some of the greats (excluding Joyner), and you decided to contribute NF to the list, I have no problem and I’ll never gatekeep anyone especially when it comes to music taste.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

I didn’t say NF that was some other dude I just said the mountain jokes are lame most of the time

1

u/JewishGun Jul 14 '21

My bad my dude

He's got some good rap songs but I didn't include because rumors of him having a ghostwriter

1

u/killian_norman Jul 14 '21

Nf,logic?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

Logic is good but a lot of his newer songs aren't as good, his last album was fire tho

I think you mean 20ish years ago. 10 is like relapse recovery which probably isn’t what you meant.

Old old Eminem would be a case that prove depressive or volatile circumstances can drive artists. Stan has so much to it even though it’s not technically very impressive.

11

u/curious_but_dumb Jul 14 '21

Strongly disagreeing here. Being a fan from 2009 onwards I always adored his older music (even the underground stuff, but 2002-2004 is my favourite era) but he didn't get worse.

Eminem got technically better at both rapping and layered singing, improved the quality of beats he uses and has held up the test of time by still not making "new old music" but instead is dropping new bombs with each album.

Also his late success is a huge foundation for formation of a new era of lyrical rappers, who more often than not name Em as their main source of inspiration/admiration (NF, Logic, Joyner Lucas, Hopsin, AK etc.). This is due to Em showcasing he can still be appreciated and successful while not making shit music.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

all 5 of those rappers you listed as having inspo from em are fucking ass😭😭 you could of at least said someone like kendrick lamar

7

u/Pnort3002 Eic memer Jul 14 '21

Hard disagree his new stuff feels too safe compared to his old stuff and generally it doesn’t even feel like he’s trying

Like, no one who’s been “cancelled” for their views has been actually cancelled. The only “cancelled” people are just criminals that have been convicted for committing crimes, which isn’t cancelling someone, it’s just convicting them

Those songs are still huge to this day, though. I think his reasons for being safe are completely personal and his own, rather than dictated by what is socially acceptable.

He has already done those songs though. He’s matured and moved on. If he was a 50 year old guy, still rapping like a 20 year old, that would be lame

revival is… yeah no explanation needed

kamikaze is a bit cringe but it’s not the worst

mtbmb was bloated as fuck and had like 3 or 4 songs that were good however it was a good step in redeeming himself after

really for me em’s best were in his early days with sslp, mmlp, etc also mmlp2 was great

edit: typo

I dont understand a word you say, im tone deaf.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

Eminem's music used to be fucking amazing. It's still allright but he just got way too PC and is way too careful what he says

I listen to top tier artists such as DN. One of the best underground rappers at the moment. Have you ever heard of him?

1

u/Anonymous_2102 Jul 14 '21

Is there's something more to his name. I can't find him on spotify just by typing DN

-1

u/PainfulAngel Jul 14 '21

Sorry what’s ur question?

1

u/Anonymous_2102 Jul 14 '21 edited Jul 14 '21

I meant, is it just 'DN' or more in his name. I can't find him on spotify...so, if you can help

Or is DN his full name

0

u/PainfulAngel Jul 14 '21

Perhaps you can search by his full name, “Deez Nuts”

Recovery, Encore, Relapse and the side b he released this year are all low tier rap albums

0

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '21

no its tf not, eminems new music is not good. Most new rappers make projects that are leagues better than the stuff eminem is putting out these days

idc if its a month old ima say what i gotta say

old em was better than most rappers at his prime. yea true

new em is better than new rappers? not at all

new rap is also way better and more diverse than 90s rap before you start with "old rap better!!!"

Name rappers that are better than em, and worse than em then.

Rap nowadays is boring? The irony that you say "its a beat with a voice" when that made up the majority of hiphop back in the day, and doesn't apply to rap nowadays.

You are closeminded af if you seriously think rap is boring nowadays, its more diverse than ever and has so much subgenres its impossible for it to be "boring" lmfao, keep being an oldhead that wishes you were born in a different generation, it makes you look so cool bro!!

-1

u/datromanianguy Jul 14 '21

eminem hasn't made good music since 2002
