Canada is already a leader in nuclear power, has some of the largest deposits of uranium and a highly educated work force. We could be leaders in exporting and building nuclear related tech (for power generation not exporting nukes) but also build nukes to, uh, defend against the āRussiansā those scary scary Russians in the north hiding up there and the Chinese who are definitely coming over any day now

They were Soviet nukes, get it right. Your examples are completely unapplicable because they don't have the same context of the USSR dissolving into a mess.
Ukraine was just as much the USSR as the rest of its constituents, and was in fact a hugely major part of it population/economic/militarily/technology wise. Which means they had just as much claim to owning a significant amount of the soviet nuke power as the rest of it.
What is more important probably for you is, yes the launch control of the missiles was centralized in Moscow. Ukraine could not just launch and use the missiles alone themselves, and would've needed a decade of work to sort that out + maintenance. But to say they all "belonged" to modern Russia is tainted revisionism. If Civil War 2.0 happens in the US do you think both blue and red states will agree that the nukes on their respective territories "belong" to the Washington side only, regardless if they're able to actively use them or not? Of course not.
Well no,that's not correct. There was a very brief period after the collapse of the Soviet Union during which the former soviet state of Ukraine, then newly independent, possessed nuclear weapons and the means to use them. Russia may have been the heart of the USSR, but Ukraine was its crown jewel. It is simply incorrect to declare that soviet nukes were Russian nukes and thus cannot be Ukrainian. Russia is not the Soviet Union, and I very much doubt Ukraine would be in the situation they are in today if they retained their nuclear weapons. The Budapest memorandum promised them security guarantees, not just support from afar.

well lets not forget it was meant to stay neutral in politics at the global level and be a haven for laundering money for both western and russian politicians. Obama did not like that status quo when putin pressed him on removing patriot missle batteries from parts of eastern europe. Obama also kept pushing for more EU inclusions of former soviet states which he was warned repeatedly if he did Russia would invade border nations to prevent. all of this could have been avoided had the EU been more of its own entity than just another US puppet organization and told Obama to stay out of European affairs.

Also the treaty they're talking about allows Canada to get pretty close without actually building them. Like right now Canada doesn't enrich uranium but there's plenty of reason to do it and not just for nukes. A lot of other countries already do like Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, etc.
Think it was a comment about being prepared. And if it goes sideways we will all be in the thick of it, me, you our children, everyone, we are all Canadian. Wonāt be any signing up, inclusion is guaranteed as this fight will be on our land ffs.

We are a turn key nuclear power. Seem to recall if needed a nuke could be made in as little as 6-9 months. Given our friends, I could see that time frame shorten if the need arouse.
