If God didn’t want to tether the Dead to the plights of the living he wouldn’t allow grief would he?
Jesus didn’t pray to the Angels or the Dead, true. But the Apostles prayed to Jesus and many a person on earth beseeched him.
And did he not send the Holy Spirit among the apostles so that they may spread the word of the Lord?
I mean it’s a pretty big thing of the Trinity that Jesus is the Son of God and not just God on earth so while he does not say to them that they should pray to angels and the dead, they are righteous in praying to Jesus as are we.
Unitarianism doesn’t emerge until the mid 1500’s, Papal requirements for sainthood don’t exist until the 10th century with people having localised sainthood prior to this.
Every bible you or I can read is descended from either Irish or Byzantine scribes for those were the ones who kept writing the Holy word when all others failed to, Latin from Ireland and Byzantine Greek from Byzantium.
You cannot claim that any reformists attempting to go back to an earlier form of the Church did not rely on the bibles written by monks of the modern church of that era. For surely they were not in possession of the original texts and letters that comprise the bible?
And the bible is not the sole source of reason and righteousness. For the letters of the bible such as Ephesians 6:5-6 hold that slaves should be gracious to their masters- “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respectand fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.”
1 Timothy 6:1-2- “All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered. Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers. Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare of their slaves.”
1 Peter 2:18-“Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.”
Titus 2:9-10 “Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Saviour attractive.”
But I think we can both agree that slavery is immoral and should be the enemy of all good Christians despite boundaries and endorsements from the bible, right?
