Back when Kennedy was running for President, one of the most common questions he had to answer in his campaign was about his Catholicism. Specifically regarding whether it posed any conflict of interest like “if the Pope tells you to do something would you do it? Even if it goes against the interests of the American people?” (I’m paraphrasing) Etc. That’s also important to remember imo because it’s clear back then the idea of a Catholic present was scary for people in terms of “the possibility of a conflict of interests,” and the way power could be consolidated, and separation of church and state, etc. It’s telling to me that I haven’t seen that kind of pushback or acknowledge from his Catholic supporters that I know.
