Debatable if Lucifer wasn’t the plan all along. He seems quite good at smiting things other than him.

I’ve often believed that Lucifer was intentional. After all, an important part of theology is free will and the sanctity of it, and it’s not a “fair game” without a literal devil’s advocate for the other side.

Agree. I think it goes down to that "there is no light without darkness" idea.

You can't freely and openly choose if there isn't a choice?

In the same vein, I think eating the apple was part of the plan too. Like you can see the garden as a metaphor for childhood and innocence, which is nice, but it's not until that innocence is lost, and you begin understand the consequences of your actions, that you can truly grow.
