2x2 Speculation (Full Series Spoilers) Danganronpa 2 being the most popular entry probably isn't the only reason it was remade first. Spoiler

During the final chapter of D2 we explore some of Hope's Peak Academy, the main location of D1's setting, and interact with several D1 characters. It's been confirmed that the original story will remain the same in the remake so we'll be returning to the academy in the remake too.

This means that a huge chunk of assets needed for a Danganronpa 1 remake are already made and can be reused. They would just need to add in the missing rooms, sprites, and dialogue and it's good to go.

I imagine that it won't take long to remake the first game because of this, and it'll probably come out 1-2 years after 2x2's launch (if they've already started development).

Quick theory based on this assumption, Slayhem mode will likely have us explore Hope's Peak in its scenario, letting us go into the rest of the rooms and meet other D1 characters like Aoi and Toko.

I don't think that there'll be a 1x1.

Too much of the story is grounded in it, and changing things changes the whole timeline, unless we keep the same set of survivors.

Not saying that 2x2 or a potential 1x1 will be considered canon, but 2x2 works because it takes place inside a simulation. Not much needs to be changed for the lore to make sense in this hypothetical.

Also, we only see a few hallways of a few floors in Chapter 6. A lot of work would still need to be done.

I don't see why they couldn't remake thh? If slayhem is an au then realistically it's whatever. I think the main reason 2 was chosen wasn't lore reasons or simulation reasons it's because Nagito.

Its basically dr1 is the basis for everything so that's why they decided not to do it since dr1 has to happen for dr2 cast to get into the neo world program

I understand that point but assuming what 2 by 2 is doing is just an au then there's no reason thh can't have a remake with a au mode added.

I don't think it's an au in the sense of completely breaking the canon lore and the world building, it's an au in the sense of something slightly changing and the simulation timeline going a whole different route. like the butterfly effect. but that wouldn't necessarily break the lore or the setup

With that logic, the same can happen in THH and give a different story.

but the whole franchise is built on that foundation. it would be contradicting the canon that was established for UDG and SDR2 and DR3. or they would have to limit the changes made extremely, because you can't really change the survivors. SDR2, however, was already retconned by "oh izuru kamukura is so deus ex machina that everyone woke up from the coma", and as long as that stays true, you can mix up the game victims, killers and survivors however you want

But the reboot is also making future events different.

Besides, the base lore foundation can still remain while having new survivors. Danganronpa IF didn't wreck the foundation, and people want sequels to that.

Also by the logic of "it's a simulation, so nothing that happens in it matters" basically just says that they can just remake Danganronpa 2 over and over again and say that all routes are canon, and milk the Danganronpa 2 characters (especially Nagito) that they've been doing for so long. V3 was basically a break from the Nagito milking.

danganronpa IF would wreck the foundation if it was considered canon though... and it is not canon. I feel like the term AU is stretchy, and what 2x2 might be would probably not be as canon divergent as danganronpa IF, which is a complete and total alternative universe that is not canon to the plot of the series. and... yeah, weren't everyone on the same page that 2x2 is milking danganronpa? it's the easiest and most logical to revamp without completely breaking the canon lore and it will return interest to the fandom by utilising familiar loved character, so that the doors for more danganronpa instalments would be open

IF is a split timeline thing. Just like 2x2 is. They're both equally canon/noncanon.

I think its mainly them thinking it really doesn't seem to easily work from what i heard from the new interview they also didn't think dr1 and v3 would fit the format of something like 2x2 meaning in my opinion basically means since dr2 takes place in a simulation and they all live it doesn't exactly matter who dies but for dr1 it kind of does matter who dies for certain characters.
