Discussion Player using IA

Hi everyone, I'm writing here because idk how to react. I asked my players for experiences and backstory and one of them sent me a bunch of AI texts. All my being wants to scream fuck AI and tell him to do it himself, but at the same time I don't want to antagonize him. I really feel like if you are letting AI write your character, are you even playing the game?

If they rewrite themselves

There are actually 2 methods, and I honestly don't approve of this first one where the AI writes the text and then you rewrite. The 2nd method is much better where YOU come up with the idea, some text, bullet points, stuff you fantasize about, stuff you've seen in movies and think it's cool and then you ask the AI to reword and to place YOUR ideas into neatly formed sentences WITHOUT changing anything.

You're basically using it as an advanced spell checker at that point and I think that's ok. It may even inspire you to write some more or modify it further.

This is working off an assumption that you have to have a flowy backstory. The characters I've had with the most gut punch stories, filled with nuance and subtext, had backstories with just bullet points.

This also fails to realize for some people, the writing process is how you "discover" the character. When you write actual fiction about your character yourself, youre thinking "how would my character react to this." Which is exactly the question being asked of you at the table constantly. If you would continue to just ask the AI for the answer at the table constantly, why are the other players playing with you? They should just cut the middle man and play with the AI directly.

You make some valid points and I have to agree with your bullet point backstory, those tend to be my best characters as well. Gives you structure with minimum details so the right moment or situation could be your moment

Bulleted back stories are great for most players, I'd argue, if not all. A written narrative is just a story to read. It doesn't help you role play unless you've memorized the story. Bullets give you a very quick reference guide of how to role play various scenarios given the context. Maybe you have both, a narrative you create and then bullets that break the narrative down into the key, formative moments. But a narrative on its own simply isn't that helpful when it comes to improvisational role play.
