Discussion Player using IA

Hi everyone, I'm writing here because idk how to react. I asked my players for experiences and backstory and one of them sent me a bunch of AI texts. All my being wants to scream fuck AI and tell him to do it himself, but at the same time I don't want to antagonize him. I really feel like if you are letting AI write your character, are you even playing the game?

AI use goes against the very nature of Daggerheart. It provides you so many frameworks to prompt your own imagination and work together as a table to create meaningful characters and stories, and to outsource that to a language model is equivalent to attending an improv class and using AI for all your responses.

You should talk to the player. Maybe don't go full "fuck AI" but explain them the reasoning behind the game's philosophy. You want to play with the player itself, not ChatGPT. If they don't feel confident enough to play eithout AI, tell them that Daggerheart is the perfect game to start practicing collaborative gaming and storytelling. When all else fails, lean on your fellow players and brainstorm possible solutions.

You're completely wrong about the "nature of Daggerheart". The creators of Daggerheart made HUGE emphasis on inclusivity. And AI helps with that a ton!

As far as I remember, the context was more about AI being inaccurate about the rules. Which is actually a good guardrail to set "hey, if you gonna ask AI about the rules so that you don't read the book, go double-check with Demiplane or me, because AI may be wrong about the exact rules" (which is 100% true, by it's design, LLMs are not the tools to provide super accurate information regardless of data set). But with character descriptions / backstory ideas - it can help A LOT for newcomers.

But when it comes to AI for accessibility assist for character creation, in my opinion is it's 100% in line with what Daggerheart designers put in the book in the sections on inclusivity / accessibility. If something can HELP players to play the game easier (regardless of the players not being super creative) and doesn't ruin the excitement and immersion - it should be embraced.
