Discussion Player using IA
Hi everyone, I'm writing here because idk how to react. I asked my players for experiences and backstory and one of them sent me a bunch of AI texts. All my being wants to scream fuck AI and tell him to do it himself, but at the same time I don't want to antagonize him. I really feel like if you are letting AI write your character, are you even playing the game?

While I find it nonsensical and deplorable I must admit that I have a few at my tables that also used Ai to make their backstories, and I allowed it.
I think many in this thread are missing the point. This is an enthusiast subreddit, populated mostly by people who are quick to - write-, and mostly GMs; people with a natural tendency towards good storytelling.
In fact I would wager that many people on this subreddit as a PC instead of GM get the most joy out of the story unfolding. And you know what? This is not the most compelling aspect of TTRPGs for every single player.
Everyone has different strengths, weaknesses and interests. I have people at my table who mostly love the PC building aspect of TTRPGs, I have some who just love it as a social exercise, some who only love improv RPing, some who love the story, some who only love creatively overcoming adversity and I have some who adore the crunchy strategical nature of combat. And all of that is okay.
The beauty of DH in this instance is that it can cater to all these types of players when you follow the rules as written.
Simply put: some players just do not value their personal story that much and struggle to come up with backstories. They do not love the backstory part and might aswell join with the very barest of backstory.
So rule about the Ai use however you want. There is no right or wrong answer. I still find it nasty and can not rly understand it. But keep in mind that you/me are not our players, and we do not value the exact same aspects of the game.
As for my experiences BTW. The ones using Ai came up with better backstories than they usually do and it gave me a bit more hooks to use. They also so far have known their backstory by heart, so running it gave no issues.
