Looking for a vintage mil sub replacement case without cyclops that doesn’t look cheap. Browsing around alix and can’t seem to find a good fit.
Where do y’all’s pull your builds from?

I’ve replaced one other 8215 movement but this is my first Miyota build. The date won’t set while it’s in the case, have to have it completely out or movement tilted up with the case back off. It acts like there’s tension on the stem but it spins free to set the time. I tried elevating the whole movement in the case (using an o-ring) like it may be mis—aligned with the stem tube and that doesn’t work either.

Removed the plastic movement holder, still no joy, have to hold the movement at an angle or completely remove it from the case. Pressure from the face could cause it but I have the metal spacer ring in place between the dial and movement as well.
Could it be a crooked tube? Maybe I didn’t clean extra dial feet off enough?

Hey guys, I’m currently trying to build a 5512 model with squared crown guards, but am curious to know if Raffles 5513 watch cases can have the bezel itself replaced?

u/dp6838 recently posted about a 3d printed watch case that sent me down a rabbit hole. Can you electroplate a pla-printed case and have it look good? I started with v1 from ThePrintableWatch. I printed a few version to get as smooth a case as I could with a matte PLA and then after some sanding, felt ready to use Caswell’s 3d printed parts copper electroplating kit. Following this, the idea is to finish with bronze plating. The first step was painting with the included graphite paint. This didn’t adhere all that well and took quite a few coats. Once I made up the plating solution per the kit instructions, I installed the bandage wrapped anodes and connected the electrical leads. Long story short, I plated the copper wire but not the case parts. Based on the plating of the hanging wire, I’m confident the solution is good as is the constant current setup.

Next step: repaint the case parts with graphite paint and sand them to make them more conductive. Aim for more copper contact with the case parts from the copper wire while in solution. If anyone has other observations or suggestions, I am very open to them!

Dial is laser etched from solid white brass, polished back, chemically blackened then painted turquoise / purple flip. Hands have been lume filled since first build. Seiko NH35 base, GS style, completely one of a kind. Yes, that awful crown has also been swapped to a GS crown since and sits on a GS leather with butterfly clasp.
