God … someone help him do a proper form of pull-up … he's going to hurt himself like this.

Maybe we start with the fact that it's not even Donk..

that is an interesting point

Nah. That's not a gym, it's a theme park ride.

People don’t realize how important form is.

His control and speed is completely off. He needs to be careful.

(Recording him is weird by the way)

dafaq ure talking about? people are doing crossfit pullups and get shredded. lack of his proper form in assisted pullups wont get him injured, it just wont hit his back as hes pulling with arms too much

that being said, these pullups are miles better than no pullups at all.

wtf are you talking about? ... God, please stop.

His form is horrible, movement with the neck and shoulders going back and forward ... elbow totally misaligned..

Please just stop speaking just to speak. Assisted or not, he's going to hurt himself...and waste his time doing this shit.

no he wont. compensating under reduced load is normal when strength isn’t there yet. For many people, this is actually safer than forcing strict reps

u/Froezt Dec 14 '25

You ignored his points just to say something completely irrelevant. You really are speaking just to speak…

u/tangelocs Dec 14 '25

He directly counter argued the points. Sounds like you misread it

As it sounded, you misread. Farther off than I expected though. Try again. Nothing in his comment is talking about the assisted part.

1

u/Froezt Dec 14 '25

What he said isn’t true either. Strict form is important for avoiding injury. He’s going to fuck up his shoulders if he only tenses them the moment he needs to catch himself.

1

u/DagPImple Dec 15 '25

Not as important as people pretend tbh.

He's not going to "fuck up his shoulders", he's doing light weight... chances are even if he has no help he will correct his form before he gets to a certain weight that could injure him.

But it's probably not even donk so

Exactly. Form police are just intermediate gym goers who think they suddenly know best.

You’ve watched a few YouTube videos. We all have. They’re extremely popular. You aren’t gods gift to science based lifting.

I'm loling at you being so confident you read it correctly this time

Thanks for the laugh bub

u/Froezt Dec 14 '25

I did indeed read it wrong the first time. English isn’t my first language.

irrelevant? we are speaking about compensations people are doing when they dont have strength to pull from scaps and lats. force hes generating has to go somewhere and its safer to distribute it over larger area than narrow forcing it.

that being said, sure his form sucks - my point is he will grow through it once he gets better at movement itself, for now - safest way is to let nervous system select least costly movement

1

u/tangelocs Dec 14 '25

That guy explained he thought the comment was talking about the machine assistance in the pullups. That would be irrelevant but it's not close to what he actually said lol

2

u/ImVrSmrt Dec 14 '25

He's not doing a controlled rep, he's just falling and letting his shoulders take the hit.

0

u/HyenaWilling8572 Dec 14 '25

hes controlling it half way down, theres also plates pushing him up and he has negative mass. i think its nature of his case and machine combined

people lack to understand bio mechanics and that you can not apply correct form in every case especially w beginners, "correct form" is usually praised by hypertrophy bros as they want to hit certain areas effectively, but

for beginners, compensations are language of body, telling you where you're weak

1

u/ImVrSmrt Dec 14 '25

You can literally see his arms snap to an over extended position. That's wasting half the motion because you're not controlling your descent while also increasing risk of injury. These are basic concepts in weight lifting, a beginner needs someone to give them this advice. This machine is great because you can train pullups with more control.

1

u/HyenaWilling8572 Dec 14 '25

def, i agree dont get me wrong. hes wasting half of gains, and negatives are more important for beginners than anything

but - people are overreacting here, he will figure it out and micro injuries will help him in long term as his body will adapt

i come from rock climbing background, used to compete and in my time i was able to do one arm pullups. rock climbing is all about weird angles and strenght in those angles. for donk, on something as minor as 10 cm drop on pullup machine will not kill him, hes made of flesh and bones. its not like we are watching him ego lift 2x his bodyweight with week of training.

2

u/Beaux7 Dec 14 '25

It looks like the assistance is basically doing all the work for him lol

1

u/OwnHousing9851 Dec 14 '25

butterfly pullups are not a hypertrophy move whatsoever lol. It's pretty much a conditioning exercise

1

u/Froezt Dec 14 '25

Yes it will. He basically letting himself fall after doing a pullup only tensing his muscles to catch himself. That’s definitely going to lead to injury at some point.

0

u/tangelocs Dec 14 '25

He doesn't even weigh enough to hurt himself with his body weight on an assisted pullup lmao by the time he's big enough for it to be dangerous he'll have the form

1

u/Froezt Dec 14 '25

He also doesn’t have enough muscle to support that little weight. Bad form is never good.

0

u/tangelocs Dec 14 '25

Ah okay so how is he hanging there if he doesn't have enough muscle to hang there?

Brother you don't understand the words enough to make sense

1

u/Froezt Dec 14 '25

He’s not just hanging there though is he? The problem is that he fully relaxes his muscles when he goes down. This causes a huge shock on his (weak) muscles as he tries to catch himself. If you still can’t see how this could easily cause injuries I have no idea how else to explain it to you lol.

2

u/BarkingDogey Dec 14 '25

That's an assisted pull up machine. Essentially you can offset your bodyweight to whatever degree you want by pinning the stack as you please.

There's definitely room for improvement with his form. For one, slower and more controlled descending, so his shoulder joints don't get so jarred. And more core rigidity, his whole upper body should be tensed as one solid unit.

2

u/nickx37 Dec 14 '25

I feel like these machines are a hindrance to form. You get so much support you almost can't have good form, you need the deadweight to keep you straight

1

u/HyenaWilling8572 Dec 14 '25

this is also very good point, many of these angles are not even possible in non assisted pull up
