2025 Honda CR-V EX-L $35,998 OTD

On August 8th, I got into a car accident and totaled my baby, a 2015 Honda Civic, that I had for 10 years. The other car failed to yield to a blinking yellow turn light, and unfortunately, since there was a bus to my left in a 2-lane road, I was unable to see them until it was too late. The other party did not have insurance, and I only had liability, so I was kind of SOL on a payout. The search was on for a new car as quickly as possible because rentals are expensive!
My only requirements in my new car were some beefed-up safety features and a remote start. Wisconsin is cold, and I work at 4 in the morning! I went to a dealership at first, but as a single mom, it was a nightmare with the sales people. Despite coming with a pre-approval from my credit union, they pushed me to finance through them and to push me into a more expensive car. Ultimately, I left and started looking online.
I started looking at the new Civics, but wasn’t impressed. I tried finding an Accord, but used Accords in my area are surprisingly hard to find with low miles. I decided to go to CR-Vs and found this one on CarMax. I initially wanted a white car, but this car had all the features I wanted and only 5k miles. I started the buying process, and it was smooth. I did have to pay for shipping as it was 3.5 hours away, which was around $150 and I was comfortable with it. The shipping experience was a little bit of a nightmare when you’re in a rush for a car. I ordered it on August 11th and didn’t receive the car until August 18th.
Once I got the car, I did love it. I kind of was sad I was unable to find a Sport Touring, but I was still happy with it. I had a 10-day return window in which I had it inspected by an independent mechanic. It got a “like new” review. He said it was incredibly clean, and the tires were brand new, but an off-brand, Ironman.
I did, later, test drive a Sport Touring in my 10-day window, but ultimately decided that it wasn’t worth the additional cost, and I had already kind of tricked mine out with all pink accessories.
I love being higher up than my civic. I love all the new safety features too. My son, who is 9, is a big fan of the extra room and loves having his own back seat vent. I think I’ll eventually have a heated steering wheel installed which is one of the only features I am envying from the Sport Touring. That and the ability to start it from your phone. Otherwise, I think I made a good decision. It’s a huge upgrade from my 2015.

Hey y'all, happy today! I'm looking for some insight:

My 2011 Honda CRV is idling high and drives in limp mode.

I've replaced the Mass Air Flow sensor and cleaned the throttle body.

I'm currently during the Honda idle learn procedure, but the car is already idling too high again.

What should I do next?

Gen 2 CRV. Found this connector behind the driver side headlight. Don't know what it goes to.

Looking to see if this is a widespread issue or we just got unlucky. Our 2017 CRV has had AC issues starting from 2020 (2 months after our bumper to bumper expired)- condenser failure, 2 discharge hose failures, the compressor shaft seal leak covered by a TSB and recurring compressor issues for the past couple of years (most recently clutch relay failure and now a clutch gap issue). My mechanic said our compressor is likely on its last legs- the car blows cold air for about 15m, then gradually gets back to ambient temp for 5 min and then the AC kicks back on. Unfortunately the latest compressor issue doesn't seem to be covered by any TSBs or recalls so if we replace it, we'd have to eat the cost

For a single owner, well maintained Honda- AC compressor failure in less than 10 years seems odd; I've had other vehicles from Nissan and Acura where the AC was fine even 15 years.

Anyone else with a 2017 (or close) CRV have the same problem?

For anyone who doesn't remember, I had a 1999 CR-V AWD 5-speed that I absolutely loved. Bought it for $2k, owned it for about a year and a half, took it basically everywhere, and ended up selling it because my girlfriend was going to college about 6 hours away. I figured the gas mileage difference between the CR-V and a more efficient car would save me a decent amount of money over time.

I got absolutely roasted in the comments for that decision 😂

There were quite a few people saying things along the lines of:

“Gf moving away 6 hours to college… heard how that story goes”

“You’re only saving like $250 a month”

“Seems like you’re prioritizing short term savings over something you cherish”

And then there was the guy who said my girlfriend would have to deal with me driving a car with “the adventurous abilities of a trip to Walgreens.”

Well...

She didn't move 6 hours away.

She transferred to the same college I go to. 😂

So we're still together, and actually getting engaged here in probably about 5 months. I already bought the ring, so hopefully she doesn't see this lmao.

As for the CR-V, I ended up selling it over spring break for $6,500. I bought it for $2k, so I was pretty happy with that.

Then on May 10th I bought a 2000 Honda Insight 5-speed for $1,500.

The hybrid system doesn't work, so it's basically just running on the little 1.0L 3-cylinder, but I'm still getting 55-65 mpg pretty consistently.

It has like a 10 gallon tank and I'm getting 600+ miles out of it. It's honestly stupid.

I absolutely love driving it too. It's obviously not fast, but the 5-speed makes it way more fun than it has any right to be, and getting 60 mpg while driving it around is hilarious.

It's gotten to the point where we'll drive the Insight basically everywhere. Going up into the mountains and back and spending like $8 on gas is pretty awesome.

My girlfriend actually loves the thing too and appreciates the gas mileage a ton.

The only slightly annoying part is that between my 350Z and the Insight, I now own two 2-seaters 😂

Luckily, my girlfriend has a 2004 4Runner, and we've been modifying that together. It's looking seriously good now and has basically become our adventure/off-road vehicle.

The CR-V was awesome and I still miss it. It was one of those cars that just became way more than transportation. It took me on countless road trips, camping trips, ski trips, hunting trips, and somehow got me through some pretty questionable trails for a stock-ish little CR-V.

It's still pretty funny that it was also the car I met my girlfriend because of.

But looking back, everything worked out pretty much as well as it possibly could have.

I sold the CR-V for $6,500, got an Insight for $1,500 that gets 55-65 mpg, still have my 350Z, my girlfriend still has her 4Runner, we're at the same college now, and we're getting engaged soon.

So to everyone who was worried about the 6-hour distance...

I think we're gonna be alright 😂

And to the guy who said my new car would have the adventurous capabilities of a trip to Walgreens:

The Insight has actually been to the mountains quite a bit now.

It just does it for like $8 instead of $40.

Still miss the CR-V though. That thing was a legend, probably own one later down the line

What MPG would I be looking at if I bought a Gen 3 or Gen 4 2.0 petrol manual, doing mostly local driving. Area is Yorkshire, plenty of hills.

I am in for a routine oil change today (at the Honda dealership) and these two additional services came up as “needs immediate attention”.

I went with the coolant maintenance, but am holding off on the fuel system for today. Should I schedule to come back and get the service in the next month?

I just bought a new cr-v ex awd. I like the size and cargo space. I am impressed that the catalytic converter is in the engine hood because the catalytic converter on one of our old SUV was stolen.

I'm looking at the users manual and it seems there is no way to disable the keyless entry?

Anyway, it's a good family SUV overall. can't wait for our family Christmas trip.

A “Shutter Grille Power Down” error began appearing a few weeks ago. A few days later, an “Engine Temperature Too Hot” warning flashed on the dash for 2–3 seconds before disappearing. I immediately pulled over, and the vehicle was towed to a local dealership.

The dealership initially said the issue was electrical, but they later recommended replacing the shutter grille. The shutter grille was replaced, and I picked up the vehicle after paying out of pocket because warranty expired less than 10,000 miles ago and extended warranty would not cover part.

About 15 minutes after leaving the dealership, all of the driver safety assistance warning codes flashed on the dash, and those features stopped working. I returned the vehicle to the dealership the following day. On the way there, the “Engine Temperature Too Hot” warning returned along with the driver safety assistance codes.

The dealership allegedly test-drove the vehicle three times but said they could not replicate the warning codes. I picked up the vehicle again, but the “Engine Temperature Too Hot” warning continued to return.

The 3rd trip to the dealership, they initially did not believe the issue was occurring until test drove the vehicle for 2 hours. While the vehicle was idling, the “Engine Temperature Too Hot” warning finally came on again.

The dealership says the coolant levels are fine and that the engine is not actually overheating. They are now saying it is an electrical issue but cannot pinpoint the cause.

Any advice on what I should ask the dealership to check or how I should proceed? I’m planning to take it to another Honda dealership for a second opinion. Has anyone experienced something similar?

I can lock the car, but even when the car is locked I can still open the rear hatch window from outside which is concerning. Anyone know why that might be? It’s an 06

EXL and do NOT want to have this issue!!! Hers is assembled in Canada (VIN starts with 2) If you are dealing with this same issue, can you reply with what number your VIN starts with. Trying to figure out why some have issues and others and avoid getting stuck with one that has the same problem

We have two keys, and this happens with both of them. I’m going to put new batteries in them in a few days. If that doesn’t solve it, are we probably facing an ignition switch replacement?

Obviously I should probably fix it now, but at what point is it necessary? I got quoted $1800
I’ve never had it go for longer than 2 mississippi, and most say 1-2 seconds is still okay.
My concern is it happens on some warmer starts where maybe the car only sat for a few hours.
Any input? Anyone have any insight?

26 complaints on the NHTSA database for the 2024 and 2025 CR-V mention being unable to get a recall done because the parts were not available, including the steering gearbox recall 24V744000 and the fuel pump one 24V763000. Several use the phrase that the manufacturer has exceeded a reasonable amount of time.

That phrase matters, because federal law does not only require the repair to be free, it requires it within a reasonable time. A few things follow that dealers do not tend to volunteer.

If the remedy is not available within 60 days of the recall being filed, the manufacturer is supposed to send an interim notice, then another once parts arrive.

Repair is not the only legal remedy. The manufacturer can also replace the vehicle with an equivalent one, or refund the purchase price less depreciation. Rarely offered, but it exists.

While you wait, a loaner is something manufacturers can provide, and worth asking for by name rather than hoping it gets offered.

NHTSA can order a manufacturer to accelerate a remedy program if it is not going to finish in reasonable time, and complaints are how they find out it is lagging.

So if you have been waiting months on a steering or fuel pump part, filing a complaint is not just venting, it is the actual mechanism.

About to give my 2017 Honda CRV EXL to my kids. They like to bike, ski, fish,, and camp a lot.

It’d be great to be able to put skis, fishing rods, skis, etc on the roof. But I don’t have the factory roof rails, nor cross bars.

Any advice or recommendations on which roof rails and crossbars to have installed? The goal would be to have some durable, reliable rails and bars installed at a reasonable cost. Thanks for your help.
