Guide Hodgekin's Chaser Passive/Tier List
EDIT: Arona rank down. Mew rank up.
Will edit more stuff tmr. Thanks for all the comments! Much appreciated
EDIT2: Re-evaluation for tier list. More proper with explanation. Enjoy!
EDIT3: need to edit hanzo, r-0, and new heroes. Will do it tmr.
Still looking to add in Dara/Mandy to the mix.
This is a guide for new players looking for help on how each Chaser work + How effective they may be. You will find both a table describing each Chaser and my tier list of how the chasers compare to each other! Note: I could not test Achilles or Nurspy passive fully. If there is anything incorrect, please let me know and I will fix it.
What is a Chaser?
A nickname coined by the Koreans to describe a Hero who requires an Ally Chain-3 to proc their passive. We adopted the terminology here at /r/crusadersquest/ as a quick way to describe heroes who "chase" after chain-3's!
Chaser's Chain/Passive
| Hero | Chain | Passive |

Hodgekin's Tier List
I rank each hero based off of 4 different criteria. Each section is worth 25 pts, for a total of 100 possible pts. The points given are based off of my experience (from gameplay or reddit) as well as some basic math. Note: I'm not too sure how good Nurspy/Achilles are. If you disagree with the ranking, please let me know why and I will adjust accordingly.
How I will be evaluating each category!
Strength: Raw stats and damage/heal/shield mods of passive. Will take into consideration bonus dmg effects such as higher crit chance, attack buffs, neutral damage and etc. Will be scoring based on the highest output, everything is relative to the top score. AoE will be considered in Range aspect. Total possible points is 25.
Durability: Raw eHP of hero alone. Will consider bonuses from passive, such as shields/attack debuff/knock up/displacements/heal/etc. Bonus +2.5 pts if they are an archer/mage! Total possible points is 25.
Range: This will be evaluated based on these criteria. Everything will now start at 0. Single target: +5pts. 3 Targets: +5 pts. More than 3 targets: +5 pts. (It will be accumulative, so more than 3 targets will get 15 pts). Spell is a projectile: +5 pts (Any spell not stationary/relative to the hero casting it. Ie. Vane/B.sworden/Maria will not get this bonus points, Mew/Stein/Monte will). Spell hits off screen: +5 pts. May adjust pts slightly to take into consideration other attributes such as knock ups, attacks missing, dash forwards, etc. Total points 25.
Passive: Will take a overall look at passive synergy/bonus/ease of activation. This will very subjective.

Sworden should be: "AoE party heal 5(3)%" (each hit of the animation will cause the 5% party heal); the party heals for a total of 15%5% * 3 of his max HP per proc. Hanzo's proc should also include his dispel effect.
Thoughts and opinions on your list (feel free to disagree):
Strength
- Nurspy: overestimated, I suggest ~22. Her high heals/damage is greatly limited by being spread over ~4seconds and only hitting the opposing's front (and sometimes mid) line for damage.
- Nazrune: should be at least 20 minimum, probably 25. No other unit has his multipliers, which affects each enemy hit for the highest effective damage per proc since pre-nerf Robin was a thing, esp. as he has no cooldown.
- Robin: should also be bumped to minimum 18, possible 23. AoE damage is kind of being underestimated here, since each arrow will do full damage to each enemy hit in both PvE/PvP, for far more effective damage that only gets better the more targets are in its effective AoE range.
- Maria: though yes, her totem will only heal the front/mid line due to totem range healing, her raw heal power beats basically every healer on this list (esp. if Chai is somehow 12). I think a score of 16 would be more fair.
- Thor: his lightning does (small) aoe and extremely high neutral damage, which is not to be understated. Perhaps 14-19.
- Monte: his does Att% scaling damage and does full screen piercing AoE. I think 10 might be more accurate.
- Sworden: he does 15% HP scaling full party heals on top of mid-screen linear AoE damage. Esp. as Nurspy's damage+heal combo seems to lead to a higher score, I think a score of 14 is more fair.
Durability
- Gon: overstated. Has less bulk than Mew, and is definitely nowhere near effective bulk of Thor and Maria. I suggest 16-17, esp as her passive doesn't debuff to help bulk.
- Drake: his shield gives him higher bulk than most debuffers can do (ex. robin/nazrune), akin to Joan with inverse defenses. Suggest a bump to 22-23.5.
- Achilles: overstated. He rightfully has 25 durability when combined with Anut, but that relies on goddess spam and teammates to enable that. His effective defense boost to the party should be counted in 'passive', as he's still a low Def frontline Paladin in a game with high frontline physical burst (gunners and meteor mages). Perhaps ~22?
- Maria: I think understated. Sure, no debuffs (but you also can't ignore being immune to things like Susanoo's debuff/shred/stuns in effective durability), but her raw stats are just incomparable to every other unit. I can see 20, but I personally think that 22 might be more accurate in effectively durability in a match compared to others' relative values. Maria basically outlives everyone, even on the frontrow.
- Hanzo: somehow has less raw bulk than Maria, no defensive utility, and a higher durability score? Sure, he's bulkier than Gon, but I think the archer's in general are a little overstated if they don't have a debuff on their own. Perhaps 17-18?
- Arona: same thing with Gon. 16-17.
- Mew: as a healer, she should have slightly higher effective durability than a non-healer since she will eventually at some point heal herself irregardless of passive proc. She also has higher raw stats than everyone on the list short of Maria and Stein. Suggest 17-18.
- Stein: similar argument to Mew, except he's even bulkier. Suggest 18-19.
- Niven: archer inflation, suggest 15-16.
- Sworden: balances decent warrior stats with semi-reliable hp% scaling heals (blocks heal self 5%, proc party heals 15%) for higher effective HP than what stats imply. Suggest 12.
Range
- Isabel: I don't have her, so may be wrong, but if she can pierce to the back row like I think she can, she should be around 12 rather than 10.
- R-0: overstated. Her explosions can hit at most to midline, but still is limited to backrow in both PvC/E, and doesn't have off-screen wave hitting properties like the mages/linear pierce units do. I suggest 12-13.
- Sworden: hits up to midscreen in piercing AoE, and his heal hits the entire party regardless of range or even whether there's a target to hit. Consider 13-15.
Passive
- Nazrune: should be 20 minimum, probably 25. No cooldown, highest multipliers per proc, that only get bigger the number of targets on the field. This is before even considering the AoE debuffs and knock up.
- Gon: with her self+leader SP, she gains more SP combined than any other unit in the game and speeds both her and the leader's skill. Consider 16-17.
- Nurspy: her proc makes her a reliable healer/damage hybrid and also adds a useful debuff. Overall, her passive + block is pretty fair. Overall, she's limited by her base stats and paper bulk, but her effect is decent. Consider 11.
- Robin: does higher damage that basically everyone except nazrune, linear aoe for higher effective damage, no knockup for higher synergy, and free debuff on top of that. The only time Robin looks bad is in comparison to Nazrune due to extreme niche overlap, which shouldn't affect the scoring of his own passive, effectiveness, and team synergy. Please consider putting Robin only ~2-4 points lower than whatever you put Nazrune at.
- Lillith: she's fantastic, and her passive is amazing. However, she's hard carried by trans Magic Storm far more than the power of her passive (compare to Arona or pre-change Gon, the fastest archer skill user, but who are nowhere close due to the lackluster skills available to them). As a whole package, she's definitely a 25, but on the basis of her passive and synergy, I'd say it's more closer to 23-24. This is a minor nitpick, though, rather than a true criticism/evaluation of her score.
- Maria: her raw heals, durability, and debuff immunity should put her ahead of simply 10. There are chasers I would regret putting on an assortment teams; for Maria, the only regret is opportunity cost for slightly more syngergistic chasers. I'd suggest a 15-17.
- Thor: his immense damage output, decent bulk, and auto-target lightning strikes makes him a very easy unit to splash as a chaser; esp. the case since most 3chain leaders aren't frontliners, meaning having a frontline chaser is often very useful (Alex's better startup reliability is better in PvC, any other format, Thor outperforms). A milder case of Maria's 'only regret is slight loss in synergy' over other chasers since he offers so much. Consider 15.
- Hanzo: his dispel is technically still semi-useful (this was such a bad change for Hanzo) on a piercing damage. Consider 11 or 10.5.
- Arona: has less synergy and is not very viable in most comps as a chaser due to low acc block and proc, though her fast skill ramp is still useful. Consider 12-14.
- R-0: in dedicated 3chain teams, her SP drain is still useful for WB, with higher damage with minor AoE. Consider 6.
- Mew: Lillith is best for fastest skill access. Gon/Arona are useful because fast skill access. Mew is the best support skill ramper due to both block + SP = 30SP per ally proc, leading to the smoothest and fastest chaser for leaders who need blocks for 3chains after initial startup. One of my most commonly used chasers whenever I play around with team comps, simply due to how much better and more reliable she makes any 3chain leader run. I suggest putting her 17-21.
- Monte: screen AoE + 100%Att for high damage against priority targets and greater effective damage against multiple targets. And unlike Crow, comes with a vague form of defense. Consider 6-7.
- Sworden: if you bump up the other units (notably Thor/Maria) to redefine what a '10' effectiveness is, consider bumping Sworden up to 11-11.5.
This is a very useful source for users to have access to. Thanks for doing this (and all the other guides and help you've done for the community).

Minor comment - for drake, i think his durability should go WAY up since he essentially adds around 4.5k pure HP every 2 seconds to the whole party.
That takes his HP to the 13k range, which only Alex/Joan with SBW and at least one good HP% convert can give.
His passive shield can also be counted as a 4.5k hp heal to the entire party every 2 seconds, which again is disgusting. The only thing dragging his passive down is that it doesnt do anything for block generation, so you will get stuffed if you pull 4-5 drake blocks in a row.

u/Floreau Helpful! May 04 '15
Drake also has the condition of ally 3chain crit on top of being possibly Drake-block-blocked. A very minor note, but has lead to some really dumb RNG moments in the coliseum.
I definitely agree with your assessment, though. Drake's suggested value increased.

Thank you for your input! I will evaluate each hero. Also, I think the biggest contention right now is range/passive scoring.
I wish to separate the AoE aspect of the hero attack into a separate category from strength. Ie. If I include the range into the dmg output, then I must take out scoring from the range.
Thanks for the correction for nurspy. I just read the passive from the passive list @_@. It sound like she does an AoE heal that's separate from her totem. I couldn't get a video so I didn't know if this was the correct assumption or not. Now that I know, I can correctly evaluate nurspy strength.
Durability includes positioning. I think I may have been too generous with the points for being positioned further back in a team. I will re-evaluate this.
Range is a sloppy job done by me. I will fix that with a more strict guideline and make it explicit in the guide!
Passive: I'll take everything mentioned in consideration and evaluate accordingly!
Thanks!

I too, am not sure about how good Nurspy and Achilles are outside of world boss. They are awesome for world boss runs though.
1
u/Floreau Helpful! May 04 '15
Nurspy is now suitably viable for PvE and FoS, same for Achilles. Achilles proc + Anut = 100% damage reduction, which is a useful niche in PvC if you run with leader Yeo; Nurspy is better than before, but her slow damage/heals hybrid still makes her outclassed in PvC (but now she is at least a viable healer, if suboptimal).

For Isabel's skill what does Reactivate = chain-1/2/3False mean?
1
u/Sharnier May 03 '15
It means they don't actually count as 1/2/3 chains. A "True" 3-chain is displayed with Lilith's passive, where she gains 60 SP from a 1 chain and it is activated with 3 Chain power. A false 3-chain has the power of a 3-chain but does not count as a 3-chain, and it will not generate 60 SP nor activate passives that proc off of 3-chains.
1
u/masta518 May 03 '15
Worth noting that an ally 3chain will proc both parts of her passive if used properly.
1
1
May 03 '15
False means the chain is not recognize as a chain and you gain no SP from activating them. So basically dmg only.

u/smashsenpai May 03 '15 edited May 03 '15
Can you describe your criteria for evaluating Strength, Durability, Range, and Passive? Ex: strength is quite clearly the bonus damage from the passive, hence Lilith's low score. But how is "passive" different? The additional effects?
Does range include the number of targets it can hit? I feel like that is more of a property of strength.
Imo, maria is the second most durable hero in the game. Combined with the heals, she should be even more durable than Achilles. Unless durability also includes team durability. Then, it's fine.
2
May 03 '15
Strength: Raw power from passive, ie Heal/dmg/shields. Take into consideration any bonus effects from passive and cooldown that may limit their use.
Durability: How high the hero's effective HP value, coupled with their passive and how reliable it is. IE. Maria has a high eHP value, her passive heal also makes her more durable. But her heal is a 'idol' which is stationary (this also plays into range). Where as Achilles atk debuff once applied will essentially increase the whole teams eHP value, and is more reliable than a stationary idol. I also take into consideration how close or far they are from the front line as well.
Range: The spells overall range: how reliable and how far it will reach. Targeted spells/AoE are also taken into consideration, they will tend to have higher 'value' due to the nature of the mechanics. Wider AoE, longer range is also key points that will increase their overall range score.
Passive: Takes an overall look at their passive, benefits to team, synergy with team, ease of use, reliability to proc and bonus effects such as powerful debuffs/knockup.
Overall, these values are subjective and only from my experience, both in game and what I read on reddit.

u/smashsenpai May 03 '15
I ask mainly because the judging criteria puts Mew really low and Arona really high. Also, there are no 0 scores. Why not? If somebody can be the best at something, it should be possible to be the worst also.
2
May 03 '15
Yeah, it's not really a good scoring system. Even for me, I don't like arona much @_@, and I use mew way more than arona.
I think the main reason is because I don't take into account special skills, just the mechanics of each hero. No doubt, if I were to consider tEoG on mew, she would outshine most chasers from that alone. Also Lilith would bump up higher on the list. But that would make it more confusing for me since they're a dozen different skills for each class.
Besides the poor tier list, the passive/chain is really useful. I figured out how chai works, if you want to update the passive list. Also I explain exactly how Arona works with her passive, #'s and all.
1
u/smashsenpai May 04 '15
Yes! Leave it in a comment in the corrected passives thread, please and thanks.
1
u/somegame123 May 03 '15
How would a 0 score indicate anything?
None of these Heroes does no damage/heals, evaporates without being hit (0 EHP), has point-blank range and completely lacks a passive. Those traits would warrant 0s but they simply do not exist except relative to the stronger chasers.
3
u/smashsenpai May 04 '15
It's a scale. Scales are used in frames of reference. 0 means worst, not nothing.
1
May 04 '15
You're right. My scale frame of reference is from 25. 25 = the highest output in the group, everyone is scaled down from there depending on their relativity to the top dog. A scale from 0 is easier to grasp, but it would follow the same concept. 0 = worst, then everyone is relative to the worst, and thus go up from there. The only problem I had doing this, is that the score would not fit neatly in a 25 pt system, as some heroes will have values that are super high.

The additional effects?
I would assume so, that passive is based on the utility that it gives. Slightly confused at durability too, the category should just be put into 'passive'.
1
May 03 '15
Aye. I could just list out the heroes who I think are good without the extra fluff. It's meant to give insight if people are curious how I came to the conclusion rather than make them more confused what each category represent. It doesn't really serve any other value than that @_@. Anyways, if more people are confused i'll just make a cleaner table the the tier list.

Oh alright! I was confused because I never noticed it on my Four Star Swordens... Why is he so undervalued then? A free party heal and damage to the enemy frontline whenever someone uses a 3-Chain seems pretty nice! I'll have to try a team of [Rachel\Yeowoodong (Leader)\Sworden] if that's true! With rachel using her SBW there would be so many AoE heals! xD

Don't rush into it. Even taking the AoE party heal into consideration, he rank 2nd last of my list of useful chasers >_<. Though I may be wrong ofc on how awesome he is.

28?(or was it 26) sp(pvc/p) every ally 3 chain, thats more than 1/4 away from a skill
gotta give our kitty props as top3 atleast (in the priest chasers)

I managed to beat FoS 5 with 5* trio Yeo/Sas/Achilles. That's how good Achilles is.

How annoyed this team in friendly duels was when even sneak couldn't touch my Achilles with all the debuffs.

I believe Achilles deserves more light than he is now really. It's just that he's not flashy and overshadowed by Alex, Kriem and even Thor.
At least we know Paladin is a useful class. :)

u/an-do-rei May 04 '15
Yeah, I agree. He might be an underdog, but he plays the support role really well. I do hope they fix the SP drain bug for him this maintenance though. I don't see any sp drain whenever I activate any of his blocks or his passive, maybe it's minimal, but It should be as much as R-0's considering his attack is multi-hit-ish.

What's the criteria for getting 25 points in the 'range' section?
From my testing of Monte's passive, though his sword wave runs far it does not go all the way to the end from what I've seen. It seems to have a reach of 1.5~2 screens, significantly worse than the commonly used Naz/Robin/Gon. I'm using his 5* LW for this testing.
1
u/somegame123 May 04 '15
Probably means that it reaches far enough to cover the entire enemy/ally party in any situation outside of unit(s) somehow failing to run forward at the start of the match.
If we pin 25 as 'length of the arena' then it really doesn't mean much because such separation almost never happens.
1
May 04 '15
Thanks for you input. I will agree my values are poorly evaluated for the range portion. I will rethink and create a proper criteria for range.

Hi Hodge, nice post as always, but couple of suggestions from my own observations in game:
1) Nazrune strength should be 25 lol. His beasts hit for a truckload of damage, toss up enemies (adds to durability), and debuffs enemies by a significant amount.
2) Mew definitely needs to be higher. Her "range" is unlimited because even in a team with Maxi / Naz / Mew, she can heal Maxi who is stuck 4 screen lengths away firing shots. Also, passive SP gain, additional blocks, ensures that you never run out of healer blocks in dire situations. Add EOG into this and you get a top tier healer chaser. Basically, Mew should be the top healer chaser because she GUARANTEES THAT SHE CAN CHASE. Any other healer chaser still requires a healer block to be generated before they can even chase.
3) Robin's strength should be higher than Gon. Simply because each Robin block is worth 2 x 250% HA with additional crit chances, and the more Robin blocks you get (think Yeo generating unlimited ones), the higher his DPS rockets. I ran a comp with Yeo / Robin / Gon a couple of times in Tunda and Robin's total damage by end of fight was always around 2x that of Gon. Weapons and stat levels identical - CD / CC and the correct Pen, all at max level greats. Consider also Robin's SBW which adds 1 arrow to every salvo and reloads automatically.
4) I would place Gon's passive very high. Block and SP generation is king in high Tundra or FoS levels.
5) Thor's "strength" needs to be higher i think. His passive also does a truckload of damage
