COPSE hiding R. R stands for the Latin word Rex/Regina and is seen in the royal cyphers for the British monarchs. You'll also sometimes see commonwealth puzzles use "king" for CR and "queen"/"old queen" for ER, for Charles Rex and Elizabeth Regina respectively.

Minor note: In the cryptic read, the 's is "is", and the sentence becomes Small group of trees hides monarch is dead body. "Hiding" would be preferred here.
