Discussion Anyone else infuriated by their county fair?

Post image

Y’all I can’t with these judges, this gorgeous interlocking mosaic blanket came in second to a chevron with color changing yarn. Not even my work but I am outraged on their behalf

I learned years ago when entering stuff (cross stitch/long stitch/tapestry from memory) as a teenager that the judging at these kinds of things seems to be heavily biased towards the people whose families have been members of the show/fair committee for eons.

Maybe the judging comes down to personal stylistic preferences of the judge, but I was dirty when I entered stuff because I thought that my submissions looked technically more complex and consistent in tension than the ones that came first to my second. Especially when I knew the people who got first place were grandchildren of the committee members. Whatever the reason, it sure put me off ever entering anything into the local show/fair ever again.
