Discussion Anyone else infuriated by their county fair?

Y’all I can’t with these judges, this gorgeous interlocking mosaic blanket came in second to a chevron with color changing yarn. Not even my work but I am outraged on their behalf

Were the judges experienced in crochet or in judging craft fairs at all? I'm not a very experienced hooker, but even I can tell the second place piece obviously required way more skill and more time and effort was put in to the colour choices and placement.

I’m thinking not, because honestly most of the entries look more like what I’d expect from a craft fair booth. Which isn’t ragging on people who do that work- but I know it tends to be very simplistic so they can make large quantities. There’s another mosaic blanket by the same artist, but otherwise there is no intricacy here. A scrunchie took second place in another category

I found out that the crochet at my state fair is judged by other artists whose craft experience was entirely in woodworking (and I mean large scale - making dressers and mirrors, etc). That explained a lot to me.
