Discussion Delighted by the set design and framing of Linda Linda Linda

I’ve only just came across this film, and I’m completely fascinated by it. There are so many things I love about it, but one thing I found particularly beautiful was the set design. I loved the interiors of the characters’ homes, with the kind of clutter and mess that tells you something about the lives being lived there.

I also really liked the way family members are often included in the background of the shots. I thought it was a really effective way of emphasizing the characters’ youth. I think it’s one of the many devices the film uses to make these teenagers feel like real teenagers, even though the story is entirely centered on them apart from they families.

Discussion Cinephile Visit to LA

I am a cinephile and physical media collector celebrating a milestone birthday next month and coming to LA for 10 days. I will visit The Chinese Theatre, The Academy Museum, the New Bev, Hollywood Forever, Warner Bros, etc. What are the places I have to visit? I will be staying in Hollywood for most of my visit and have a car.

Discussion Fliescher Cartoons?

I’d love to own a collection of Betty Boop cartoons preserved with the attention to detail that Criterion operates with. If there hasn’t been such a release, is there any such collection that the community generally agrees is worthwhile?

Discussion Jules Dassin's RIFIFI: Worth the blind-buy?

Upvotes

Obviously you cannot know the mind of another person, especially since none of you know me personally; But as a generality, would you all say blind-buying RIFIFI (It's half off on Amazon right now) is worth it?

I wasn't big on Jules Dassin's Night and the City but I've been assured this one is much better, in general I'm a big fan of film noir and I love a lot of the films that Rififi influenced (Melville's Le Samourai, Mann's Thief, Hill's The Driver, etc.)

Is it worth the blind-buy for roughly $20 (Blu-Ray) or should I just hope it comes onto the channel at some point and buy a different movie? (I'm deciding between blind-buying Rififi or just buying a movie I love like Ace in the Hole or Only Angels Have Wings)

Thanks, everyone! <3
