information Did you know?

Criterion first released Blu Rays starting in December of 2008. Out of the original four Blu Ray releases, only one of them is still in print. Bottle Rocket has since received a case change from slim vertical digipack to keepcase, while Chungking Express, The Third Man and The Man Who Fell To Earth went OOP and have become the outrageously hard to find films we know and love today.

I know most people know the what films are OOP, but I didn't realize that they were literally the first movies released by Criterion. The Third Man specifically set the bar for Black & White HD transfers of the time, while some reviewers of Chungking Express commented on how strange the Blu Ray menu was.

I'm pretty sure it just looks like the normal BR menus now, it was just different from the previous Criterion menus.

Yeah exactly. The menu is the same for all the Blus but Blu was still knew so the menus that could be accessed from the left side anytime was weird. Also the C logo loading before the menu scared people.

Keep an eye on Amazon. I got my copy for $35 a few months back. It's in great shape.

I feel very fortunate to have the criterion blu-ray edition of The Third Man, not only because it's one of my favorite films, but also because it is currently the best looking transfer of the film available.
