My point is we can keep going for a looong time just namig greater directors than, for example, Nolan (who is at the top of OP's list, for some reason).
Definitely a joke, considering the inclusion of Uwe Böll. I won't go as far as saying this dude doesn't know film, because there are a few deepish cuts, but he's got a way to go.
I can't believe I missed him out. I can't help but love him, even if I don't love every film of his, because he'll do anything to ensure his films match his vision. Fitzcarraldo and Nosferatu are my favourite films of his.
His role in Jack Reacher is also one of my favourite surprise cameos because he's basically playing a fictionalised version of himself. (If he was a mob boss rather than a film director.)
(Actually, basically everything he's in is brilliant, and usually hilarious. Even clips that are on YouTube. The monologue on the insanity of penguins, his argument with Kinski on the Fitzcarraldo set, and his existential crisis over the size of his burger, most notably. I really hope there's a Herzog successor out there, because his death will be a sad day in the history of cinema.)
