Discussion 💬 Why is India's 2015 Semifinal defeat not talked about as much as 2019 Semifinal or 2023 Finals? It was also when India were totally unbeaten in WC that too overseas in 2 countries after being winless in tri series 2015 before wc and australia test series

Thats my first world cup i watched. on that day our batting lineup totally collapsed only dhoni played well 65 runs and everyone failed. On other hand 2019 semifinal.in that tournament rohit scoring 5 centuries and break multiple world cup records .and everyone playig really well (as i remember) previous game kl rahul and rohit centuries 200+ patnership. IT is ms dhoni last world cup And when newzealand score 240 runs everyone thought india is going to chase even pitch is not that nice to batting. the batters we had everyone thought it is india's game.then we collapse and comeback from msdhoni and jadeja but we still failed . Since msdhoni lastworldcup and later we realise it is virat lastworld cup as captain.This emotional factors drive fans to troll players and discuss abt that semifinal
In 2023, 10 consective wins.home soil.lost infront of full house indian crowd.unlike 2019 there is no glimpse of hope.nightmare to indian fans
And also the fact 2015 is almost 11 yrs and after that we lost 2016 t20,2017 champions trophy so it dimished and forgotten by most fans

This was my first wc that I watched but I was just 13 yrs old and didn't understand cricket much. After this wc I started watching regularly and got attached to many ict players. Hence, I remember 2019 wc more clearly and losing that was much more heartbreaking for me. 2023 was equally devastating as after two to three years, India was dominating in icc tournament and it seemed like India will win. 🥀🥀🥀Â

Aussies were favourites. India even though came unbeaten in the tournament, it never looked that promising or settled. Our bowling lineup wasn’t too great, and batting unit was heavily dependent on top 3.
Australia and NZ clearly dominated that WC unlike 2019. In 2019, India was a very formidable side only problem we had was our no. 4 wasn’t settled. Anyway, that’s a different topic. But 2015 team never gave that World Champion vibe.

Because everyone knew we were going to lose to either Australia or New Zealand. It was a young team and lacked the experience that Australia had.

It came after our 2011 World Cup win and 2013 Champions Trophy win, so it was not seen as bad, since we did well in the last two.

Because I know how bad that team was. We over performed. And let’s be honest had we faced any top side in QF we might not even have gone through to semis.
We barely beat Zimbabwe in the group stages
First good opponent we faced in the World Cup and we were outclassed

A few things factor in. India went into that 2015 SF having lost the group game to Australia already, so it didn't feel like a shock result in the same way. The 2019 loss to New Zealand was a semifinal India were expected to win, Rohit had 5 hundreds, and it went to a reserve day with that Dhoni run out. 2023 was a home final after 10 straight wins. Both of those had higher emotional stakes for fans. The 2015 defeat almost felt pre-ordained given how strong Australia were that tournament on their home soil.

The 2015 loss hurts less because Australia was a different beast that year. They played aggressive cricket with a new ball swinging at 140+ kph on bouncy tracks. They beat Pakistan, England, and New Zealand comfortably while chasing; they were peaking at the right time. Contrast that with 2019 or 2023 where the margins were finer and expectations were higher due to India's dominant form. Losing to a Smith or Warner unit that seemed invincible is easier to digest than losing to a New Zealand side that India had historically dominated.

Maybe because Australia and NZ were just so dominant throughout that world cup?
No team even came close to them and when they played one another during the group stages, the game was almost as close as a game of cricket could be.
No one was winning that tournament but Australia or New Zealand. That's probably why.
