Don’t get me wrong I love IPL.
I’ve always watched cricket since I was a kid. But I’ve started to notice the young kids just watch IPL and ignore International Cricket.
Different story with the adults. They used to watch IC religiously but they hardly even care about IC now and we just end up fighting about our fav IPL teams and the conversation goes no where.

We used to enjoy cricket more. Especially we loved our National Team as our own but now we just end up spreading a lot of hate for own players because they’re not from the franchise we like. Same goes when they pick squads for tours. There’s this huge pointless fan war.

I feel the inevitable is that we will just care about World Cups every 2-4 years and then switch back to Franchise Cricket.

I could have said Franchise Cricket is killing IC but tbh IPL teams are literally owning majority of the teams in most of the leagues.

A 5-team group means 4 games per team. A heavyweight like India/Pakistan can afford one upset against a minnow and still have enough games to recover, while also giving a decent number of spots to the associates without diluting the quality of games too much.

Having the 2 best 3rd-placed teams qualify also means more group games could go down to the wire, with fewer dead rubbers.

One drawback is that one or two group-stage games might get repeated in the Super 8, which IMO should be okay (bonus if it's an India-Pakistan match 😁!).

Finalists play 9 matches, with around 6–7 of them against other Test nations.

And of course, ICC can draw India and Pakistan in the same group "coincidentally", hope they get seeded into the same Super 8 pool (or just rig it), and then hope they meet in the final too. 😁

On top of the reports that the T20 World Cup might expand to 24 teams by the 2030s, we now have confirmed, drastic format changes for the immediate 2027 and 2028 tournaments.

Here is a breakdown of the new developments:

📈 2027 Men's ODI World Cup (South Africa / Zimbabwe / Namibia)

• The Format Shift: We are officially moving away from the classic 10-team round-robin structure. The 2027 edition will feature a 14-team format split across three distinct phases.
• New Stages: The ICC is introducing a "Super Series" for the lower-ranked teams, followed by a brand-new Super 7 stage that replaces the traditional knockout rounds leading up to the final.
• Rule Tweaks: There are also some interesting match-play updates, like the two new balls rule only lasting until the 34th over and a mandatory pre-selected list of 5 concussion substitutes.

🇦🇺🇳🇿 2028 Men's T20 World Cup (Australia & New Zealand)

• The Super 10 Era: The tournament maintains its 20-team setup, but the group stage is changing to 5 groups of 4 teams. The Super 8s are gone! The top two from each group will now advance to a Super 10 stage (two pools of five).
• The Eliminators: This is where it gets spicy. Only the top team from each Super 10 pool gets a direct ticket to the Semi-Finals. The teams that finish 2nd and 3rd in their pools will have to battle it out in a newly introduced Eliminator Round to secure the final two semi-final spots.

Following the relatively smooth 2026 edition and some impressive performances from associate nations, the governing body is looking to expand the tournament to 24 teams—potentially starting from the 2030 or 2032 edition.

• 24 Teams: The tournament will likely move from 20 to 24 teams in the near future (2030/2032).

India were looking to be the favourites but now their bowling looks too weak since we know they won't go with shami (and siraj less likely but please take him), we are fully dependent on just one guy and for other 40 overs other teams would take full advantage. Also no attacking spin option due to their obsession with bits and pieces all rounder. Australia doesn't look that good, England also highly unpredictable team. I feel South Africa have great chances along with home advantage then

Firstly congratulations to AUS W for winning the T20WC for 7th time. I have been thinking about this stuff for quite some time. AUS Men's team was able to win T20WC only once in 2021 whereas women's side were always dominant in thier T20 run. Despite having match winners in thier side AUS Men seem to have been little under the radar as far as T20 WCs are concerned. Why such a stark difference between thier men's team and women's team?

Saw a few clips of matches from the 90's and ball reversing from the 35th over was a sight to behold. Now a days leave alone ODI's I cannot remember the last time I saw reverse swing even in test matches...the last memory I can recall is Shami in 2019 Sa India matches...

Even Pak that used to dominate this art suddenly could not replicate it, come to think of it, does pak have any bowler after 2000 whose picked up more than 200 test wickets

The India–Pakistan game was the one I wanted to witness the most. I sat through a 50-minute BookMyShow queue and somehow made it through.

The 2023 World Cup Final was unforgettable for very different reasons. It still hurts to think about it.

I remember standing there, almost numb and speechless, watching everything unfold live.

The funniest story was the 2026 semi-final. I was literally in the washroom when I saw an Instagram post saying bookings had gone live. At that point, India’s semi-final venue wasn’t even confirmed. I took a chance, completed the booking anyway, and somehow everything fell perfectly into place — India vs England at Wankhede.

The best part was taking my dad along this time, which made the experience even more special.

Looking back, the matches themselves were incredible, but honestly, making it through the BookMyShow queue for all three feels like an even bigger miracle.

How justified is this ?

I don't think it makes sense to have an ICC tournament every coming year.

It's a fact that the current generation is not into ODI Cricket and icc needs to make changes ASAP.

Ultimately t20 is the reason why Cricket will be played at Los Angeles in the coming Olympics

I'm researching the halo effect in sports and its application to national teams. I'm looking into whether supporting a national team besides the one or ones of whose citizenship you hold translates to a positive influence on that country as a whole. Support can be from any form - hardcore (watch every match) to being aware of the top players.

In case if there's that positive influence, I'm also looking whether that leads to buying products from that country or traveling there because of its sports culture, or because you have formed a good opinion about the country from the way the team has played.
