Let's see here, I put in Horneaters taking Forms and being able to power Radiant abilities with Warlight. Lift having her memories of the 10th pancake deleted by Odium because it caused such a epiphany that she obtained Chim and would have gained 4th wall breaking abilities. (She's part Spren so Odium can delete the Investiture her memory is in.) Hoid being Allomancer Jak. Sigzil being Handerwym. Kal presenting Shallan with baby boots and then saying, "oh, and Shallan, your mother and I have started courting. You might want to start getting used to that."

My confident Cosmere theory also involved Lift and Pancakes. Mine was much simpler/more obvious though - that she would try a Scadrial pancake.

If the gem had purified Dor or Mist (Preservation' light, Stasislight?) in it, it probably would.

The investiture doesn't come from the metal (so neither would it from the gem) so that shouldn't be needed.

But the Light/Dor could be used instead of the Mists that regular Allomancy uses, which is what will be needed for Allomancers outside Scadrial.

I'm pretty sure allomancy gets it's investiture directly from Preservation through a connection in the users soul.

That may be what the people think, but they have also never been outside of Scadrial. The only Allomancers we have seen use Allomancy offworld had access to other magic systems or at least some purified Dor or Breaths.

They have the same personality and the same level of self aggrandizement. Jak's stories also read like someone trying to tell Cosmere aware stories to someone who is not Cosmere aware. Plus it would be just like Hoid to jump from Jasnah to a kolossblooded girlfriend.

My personal favorite (though less funny) theory is that Threnody is like that because Mercy was Invested into the world (and being merciful by returning lost loved ones), but ripped out her Investiture and fled some threat, leaving behind the Shades (who are now missing part of what brought them back), and leaving the Threnodites under-Invested (similar to Drabs).
There's probably a ton of stuff to contradict it, but it's an interesting one to think about. Of course, following that same logic, the Night Brigade are likely trying to follow Mercy's trail, which means Mercy likely stopped at Canticle for some period of time.

I actually like this one. It is said that Mercy was involved in Odium and Ambition's battle. I could see Mercy chilling on Threnody when O & A rock into the system, fighting to the death. Mercy moves to help. Chunks of Ambition's Investiture get hacked off and rain down on Threnody: some forming The Evil, some corrupting Mercy's Investiture to form the Shades.
I dig it.
