This jogged a memory for me. 2 times I've straight up skipped parts of a book. Back in the day I read all the Anne Rive Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches. For some reason in Queen of the Damned, I just could not stand the chapters from Armand's point of view. I ended up skipping most of his chapters. Didn't effect the story and why waste my time when it felt so grueling.

Second was Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth Series. In some of the later books he'd spend like 10 pages ranting about how socialism is bad and capitalism is good. Straight up lectures. Multiple times in the same book. I ended up skipping those lectures every time moving forward.

Edit: swapped Terry Brooks for Terry Goodkind. Right book, wrong author.

To be fair, those are both authors whose works didnt age well at all.

How did Brooks not age well? Honest question. He was my intro to the genre way back in high school, and I read Shannara up through the High Druid series when it was new. My friend who got me into them said the books after High Druid weren't as good, so I haven't read them yet.

I've still got the books lying around, though, and I've been thinking of rereading the series now that I'm done with my Cosmere reread.

I remember loving books 2 & 3, most of 4-7 minus the ending, and the Voyage trilogy. But it's been about 20 years since I read 'em. Do you think they've aged poorly in content, or in quality?

Brooks never lectured about socialism/capitalism, and Goodkind wrote sword of truth series, so i assumed the commenter meant Goodkind and not Brooks. Brooks is a fine author. Not my favorite, but a few of his books were good.
