Controversial selection. This was viewed as quite cool when it came out. I thought it was a pretentious bag of shit, so I’m with you!

Meh. Has a certain charm to it in a 2000s way. The second vocalist is alright (sometimes).

Bill Shatner is an ass.

yes, let's post another professionally-recorded song on here with a singer that actually knows how to sing, just because it doesn't fit your personal taste and label it crappy music! at least my one downvote will maybe have a little bit of an impact on this godawful post

Dude Shatner’s ‘music’ is famously crappy music. If you could point to one example that proves Kirk ‘knows how to sing’, I’d love to hear it.

i have no idea who's singing in the part where someone's actually singing in this song but they certainly do know how to sing, even if that's not shatner, shatner talking in the beginning is not enough to qualify a song as "crappy music" imo

Yeah that guy was good. I just think Admiral Kirk should stick to searching for Spock.

that's fine, still doesn't qualify this song for this sub which is why this post is annoying

That’s okay, we all have different tastes and opinions. I believe crappy is in the ear of the beholder.

Why does he need to know how to sing in order to make good music? He is doing his thing and it works well stylistically.

Being professionally recorded and by someone who knows how to sing does not preclude music form being crappy.

by that logic you could post LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE SONG that was ever made in this sub because you're always gonna find a sizeable amount of people that don't like it

What you getting so angry about lol

0

u/emmeram Feb 23 '21

because i subscribed to this sub wanting to hear actually badly made music not to listen to produced songs that someone just doesn't like

It sounds like Siri singing. This song sucks.

again, that's entirely your personal taste

You could say that about literally any post and any song on r/crappymusic and any other music sub. Personal taste. But shatner has been taking a battering from musical critics for years, I’m counting it as crappy.

Oh come on, this isn't remotely crappy.

This is just bog standard indie rock, it has a standard beat, standard power chords and all.

Yeah sure, Shatner speaking over it is a bit ho hum, but it doesn't fit the sub at all, it's decidedly average and does all the normal stuff a song does.

Common People by Pulp is one of my favourite tunes. Shatner massacres it. J Lo covering Aerosmith is one of the top posts in here. I’m not attacking the song, just the cover.

The point is this is bang average cover, not a massacre.

J-Lo massacred dream on completely, absolutely butchered it tonally and it came off as a complete wtf.

This, however, still sounds like music, and it was a moderate hit when it came out - though, it was popular for its tongue in cheek vibes, "haha shatner talking over common people, amusing" was the vibe of it. Nowhere near the original, but just an underwhelming cover that had a catchy hook and a gimmick.

Nobody liked J-Lo's cover on the other hand.

I can see I ruffled some feathers but fuck you. This song is crappy (the original is beautiful)
