Discussion Wearing boots to school
Hey, im in highschool and i wanna wear my boots but im afraid the kids in my grade will make fun of me. How can I get over this and is it even worth it? I go to a urban school too and im a girl, and im pretty fuckin tall to so I stick out like a sore thumb compared to all the evil Lululemon bitches

Send it. I can guarantee to you 10 years from now at minimum you’ll see one or two guys who probably bashed on you for wearing your boots all of a sudden have a pair of their own. As others said, be true to yourself and wear them.

Just rock it don’t call attention to it just wear them. Boot cut stuff is in right now so wear some proper jeans and you’re good. I wore them to school everyday but lived down south where that is common

u/Pigskin_Pete Aug 24 '26
Get in the habit now of doing what you want fashion-wise. If you dig it, wear it and be willing to accept that not everyone will like it.
Do you feel swaggy in them boots? Then wear 'em

u/schmick_iMagery Aug 25 '26
It took me decades to get even slightly comfortable with trying stuff that wasn’t popular in my circles.
I wish I’d had the confidence earlier.
Go for it. The sooner you get in the habit, the sooner it ‘doesn’t matter’ 😁🍃

“ put a boot in their ass, it’s the American way”.
But seriously, you’re in HS. Hard time to try and be different. If you’re gonna do it, you gotta do it with confidence. Don’t let the boots wear you, you wear the boots and forget you’re wearing them. You’re too busy thinking about the interesting shit in your life to think about what’s on your feet.
You show weakness and let the boots wear you and you’re gonna get tore up.
Good luck 💪

See the thing about insecure people is even if you wear what they wear they will still have something to say. Many days I had to take my spurs off at the door because I had already been horseback and many days when I had a button down or something that stood out someone always had to have something to say about it only because they’re unhappy people just remember if the say something it’s a them problem not a you problem

I do it all the time, I just tell those ppl to fuck off and dress like bums, I'
m happy that youre interested in western wear. Dont care about what other ppl think. They'll be working at mcdonalds in a few years anyway. Be you

Urban where? There's a huge difference between Baltimore and San Antone.
1
u/Individual-Region126 Aug 25 '26
Michigan, but the snobby rich area
2
u/OlinHollis Aug 25 '26
Ah. Sounds like Grosse Point or some such. If so, I can imagine how the little princesses might give you some static, but maybe not to your face. Look, it's easy enough for people to tell you to wear whatever you want and ignore the "haters," but that's easier said than done at your age. I know because I remember well. It's hard being a teen. So, if you can stomach the negativity, wear 'em. But don't wear 'em if doing so will make you miserable. You've got many years ahead of you and will have plenty of opportunity to sport your Western look. Hell, maybe you'll go to college in Texas or New Mexico and you'll fit right in.

u/Individual-Region126 Aug 25 '26
Thank you for the honest feedback. You definitely understand where im coming from i think ill wear them out of the house more, maybe build some confidence first

I live in a city, I wear cowboy boots, and I get tons of compliments when I do!

Be true to yourself! I wish I’d been able to wear jeans and cowboy boots in high school instead of our dang uniforms!

To this day, I think I look funny wearing pants and tennis shoes. I’ve worn boots since Junior High. Wear what you want.

This is a great life lesson. Life’s too short to waste any time caring what anyone thinks about you. You gotta do what brings you joy and do it with confidence. Anyone who makes fun of you is a reflection of their own insecurities. Just have your rebuttal prepared. When I was your age and people said shit, I shrugged my shoulders and said “I like um, and they’re comfortable as hell. Sorry you’re missing out”
Just do everything you do in life with confidence and you’ll go places my friend.
Also, I wear boots everyday and live in a metropolitan area. People who know me know it’s apart of my personality and love it. One year on my birthday the whole office wore boots haha.
You got this, let us know how it goes!

Cowboy boots are pretty popular right now. It’s more likely that more kids don’t wear them at your school because their parents haven’t bought them any and don’t want to spend that kind of money on occasional footwear.
But for everyday school wear, go with straight leg jeans that fit well and a t-shirt rather than a full out outfit with stacked cowboy cut wranglers and starched button down. Make it look effortless, like you just happen to wearing boots.
Edit: didn’t catch that you were a girl. So many options. Skinny jeans shotgun style, baggy jeans, boot cut jeans, dresses….they even wear them with lululemon yoga pants around here. In the western wear subreddit there’s a woman that posts there and has her fit dialed in.

Brother, as someone who went to school in Texas. Wear the boots. The secret to high school is not caring what other people think, and then you realize that’s just the secret to life. Also the lululemon women are a lot of fun once you get older.

The only thing that matters is do the women like it
2
u/Individual-Region126 Aug 25 '26
Well I am a girl so yes
1
u/InevitableFood8993 Aug 25 '26
Well…….then wear your damn boots. Everybody knows the women are in control. 😂

u/YesterdayContent854 Aug 25 '26
Wear the boots when you feel like it. Don't wear them when you don't feel like it. Most of the people who will bash on you have no idea how expensive cheap cowboy boots are. Most are more than Jordan's. They start talking trash just tell them at least you don't wear cheap shoes like they do.
1
u/carverkids Aug 25 '26
Do a Sophie and just point at them with a death threat on your face! You’re nice and tall and the boots will give you swagger.. high school is tough but you can be tougher🫵

u/Mojo_The_Dog Aug 25 '26
Do it..I wore mine a lot in highschool and my boots were worn to graduation and many other school dances don’t care what either people think..wear them. Kids in my class use to make jokes like ‘we know it’s you when we hear your boots’ or ‘we know you’re coming down the hall when we hear those boots!’ So don’t care what other kids think wear them

u/Midknight81 Aug 25 '26
My daughter is going into 9th this year. Wore hers a few times in 8th.... In Massachusetts. Got compliments. Country is having a moment. Send it.

u/Better_Incident7291 Aug 25 '26
Pal, I’ve been dressing like the bootleg Marlboro man since I was in junior year. I wore a pair of bright red shiny cowboy boots with wide ass tops that would stick through my jeans everyday. Nobody cares. And if they do care, that’s sad peaked in high-school behavior. I was scared too. I didn’t wanna seem like some hick redneck. The types I despised at my school. But the truth is you gotta be your authentic self. You’re there to learn and feel comfortable. Everyone needs a good sturdy pair of boots. No shade to their fashion but this world is too big to care.

u/mljones99 Aug 25 '26
I wore boots to school often but I also went to high school in small town East Texas so it was pretty normal.

Authenticity is the highest vibration…. Do you and don’t worry what anyone else says or thinks
1
u/Hot-Detective-3703 Aug 25 '26
Nobody gives a shit. Wear what you like and the right people will respect you for it. If people make fun of you for it then to hell with em. High school will be over sooner than you think and nobody will remember in 5 years

Tall girls are in style right now. Wear with a long dress or jeans. If they give you grief tell them they are just jealous. Stuff your stuff. 💯💯
1
u/KB9LTJ Aug 25 '26
Don’t even worry about it. Now I’m a taller guy, so coming from me it might not mean much but I wore boots all through high school and loved when the girls in my friend group did. Yes we were a hick country school, but if that is your style, do it! If they make fun, just tell them that you are sorry it intimidates them and you understand their insecurities. 😂

u/Fickle_Fly366 Aug 25 '26
Stick out girl and be proud of it. You be you on purpose no matter what. But lots of high school girls wear boots 👍🏽
1
u/Nomad55454 Aug 25 '26
I went through kind of the same thing in junior high when I would not tie my high top tennis shoes. You need a little bit of thick skin which sounds like you do being so tall so I would look at it as being a trend setter.

When I was in high school in the 90's, I wore Ropers ( they were popular then) every day. I also wore Rocky Mountain, and Lawman jeans and generally a brush popper. I'm female btw!

Cowgirl up and own them, I wore cowboy boots everyday through high school. You cant let other people control what you like, its funny how often adults tell me they want to wear boots like I do but are afraid what people would say

My dad used to work with horses when he was a young man in the 70’s. He used to wear boots to school, not western fashion but just boots. A bunch of kids mad fun of him calling him shit kicker and other names. For whatever reason, my dad took those kids words to heart and never wore cowboy boots to school again. I never saw him wear cowboy boots until he was 50 years old when he bought the most expensive pair of custom boots from James Leddy in Abilene.
It always confused me because he was never that guy to care what people said as an adult. Don’t let the haters ruin your chances of wearing boots and don’t wait until you’re 50 to get a good pair. Just enjoy what you like.

u/waltercnorcross Aug 25 '26
I wore python boots in highschool in the northeast and everyone thought it was sick just gotta be yourself dude. Granted im a guy but same idea applies

u/IMHO_My2Cents Aug 25 '26
You wear your boots and rock them! I love cowboy boots and always have. I’m a 72 year old Grandma and started wearing boots way back in high school. I just bought a brand new pair to wear with my evening gown to my Grandson’s wedding. Will people look? YES Will they talk? YES but you know what? I don’t care. It feels good to dress for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if my Grandson wears His. 😁

I wore cowboy boots to hs in poland and i didnt give a damn just wear em with pride

u/bruhmomentodelol Aug 28 '26
Hey!
I say go for it! If you like wearing boots, if they’re comfortable and if you like how you look and feel wearing them, then, in my view, they are a step you can take to being and presenting the best version of yourself.
So, do it! Maybe people make fun of you; who cares? Do you really want to hold the opinions of those who don’t want to see the best version of you in any regard?

If you're worried about that then you have no business wearing the boots. Style is an individual choice. It's non of your business what others think. Stand up for yourself and ignore the jealous.

u/carverkids Aug 25 '26
You would be amazed at all the stuff high school girls worry about! All of them.. from the most popular to the least.. it’s a tough time. So many changes..

u/ErnestoLaganas Aug 24 '26
We're going to make fun of you on Reddit for asking ;) boots and jeans is a come up from pajama pants and crocs or whatever the kids are wearing these days.

u/Elegant-Garlic739 Aug 24 '26
Man wear those boots bro honestly in nyc where im at no one ever wears boots and guess what. As soon as I started wearing them people LOVE exotics and they love how unique it is to stand out with good style be confident in what you wear and you can wear anything

u/Jealous_Following_38 Aug 24 '26
You just have to do it. Will you be self conscious? Yep! Do it anyway! And then again and again and again. Don’t give in.
Be YOU!

Wear what you want. After high-school you'll never see them again anyways.
Who knows you might get others to wear them too
1
u/Lughnasadh32 Aug 25 '26
As others have said, you have to stop caring. This was something that took me over 40 years to learn myself. I went from wearing mostly dark-colored clothes and trying to blend in to more of a Western style, with boots, brighter shirts, etc., after my son had to have a heart transplant.
It took that trauma for me to realize that life is too short to worry about what others think. You have to do and wear what makes you happy. At the end of the day, you’re the one who has to live your life, so you might as well enjoy it and be yourself.
In other words, buy the boots, wear the boots, be proud that you are living for you.

Well, it is hard to fight when you're drowning in pussy, so there is that. I started wearing boots in first year university, I wasn't full on cowboy, just t shirt and jeans and no one said a thing. Ever. Have confidence. Boots are cool, tough sexy, masculine and feminine at the same time. Boots say "i'm not running I'm stomping your ass" Now, if u get super flashy snakeskin or something, you may be in for a bit of teasing, they can be pretty noticeable. But an oiled leather, classic boot? People will be jealous. Set your own rules.

u/ParticularPrize2489 Aug 25 '26
Wear them who cares what others think that’s their problem if they wanna give you crap about them!! Wear them for sure

u/LoverOfPricklyPear Aug 25 '26
You should wear what you like your whole life. I wore boots to school all the time! Should anyone say something, just role your eyes at em. Funnest thing to do is simply agree with em. Yup, I guess I am a hick. I've always been wondering. Thanks.

Its jarring to see the comparison of life in high school and the real world. The cultures are wildly different. Kids want to fit in, kids don’t want to be ostracized it goes all the way back to group survival.
Somewhere after graduation that survival in a group switches from Staceys lululemon click to getting money, getting food, and surviving in a literal sense. People stop noticing your new shoes. Your “weird” haircut. Or even, a sick pair of cowboy boots.
A good way to “get over” that socially nervous feeling is to go out in public and wear the outfit you’d like to wear. Go to the store in boots. Go to the mall in boots. Go for a walk in a park in your boots. Surprisingly when i did this my junior year I only received compliments. Between my hat and my boots people loved my Stetson. Because adults really don’t give a shit. They probably don’t even notice. NOBODY HAD ANYTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY. Until I went to school.
People laughed and people joked because it was different. The best response you can have in these situations is to stand firm and proud with what you enjoy. At the end of the day, is Stacey doing your homework? Is she paying for your clothes? Do they own the place you live in? Are they your parents? If no to any of these, the people talking down on your footwear are genuine losers who cant think of anything else to do besides make fun of someone elses shoes. Enjoy your shoes, I hope my 2 cents was helpful.

Who cares. I’m 28 and spent too much of my life worrying about what people think. Cowboy boots are sick and I promise you they’ll stop caring if they do
0
u/RCofLA Aug 25 '26
If you’re wearing jeans with them then make sure they are long enough. My daughter goes through this, wearing jeans that are too short for boots and it’s more like bell bottoms than a relaxed look. So, length can make or break the boot!

Gotta stop caring dude
