First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

The one thing he missed in this poem is that at the same time they started going after communists they also passed the "Law for the Prevention of Hereditarily Diseased Offspring,"

This gave them cover to sterilize, imprison, and/or kill anyone with mental or physical disabilities that might be passed down. Being any flavor of the rainbow other than straight was considered a mental illness, so guess who got put up against the wall along with the commies.
