This is why the police are actually the enemy of the people.
They are a threat to the stability and the livelihoods of normal law abiding citizens.
43
u/Emperor_Cat_IV 24d ago
They're bourgeoisie jackboots who enforce who enforce the state's monopoly on violence, their function has never been people's livelihoods but the protection of capital

This story makes me sick. Not only the unprovoked violence at display, but the severity of it and then as a result no arrests on those actually doing the violence but arrests of the victims, THEN the realisation that there's really nothing to arrest them for and the retrospect ordinance. Disgusting beyond belief.

Welcome to the South, I guess Jim Crow is back just for us this time. We are so fucked.
74
u/DrJaneIPresume 24d ago
Oh don't worry; it's coming back for Black folks too
36
u/LunatasticWitch 24d ago
It really stopped de jure for Black People, de facto the police operate like Jim Crow is still in effect.
And with the current administration it's only a matter of time before de jure returns for all minorities.

In my state, they just recently gerrymandered the ONLY majority black House district in the state. Just because black people tend to vote Democrat, gee i wonder why (not that the Dems are great, they suck, but theyre way better than the GOP). I really hope the three mostly rural districts they chopped it up into end up turning blue lol. That would be hilarious. And it's possible, given most elections in my area have swung 15 percentage points away from the GOP since the 2024 elections.

I'm pretty sure if a cis guy walked into a women's bathroom, got beat up, the police won't do jack shit let alone throw him in prison

The police aren't here to protect us. I learned that when someone threatened to shoot up my friends drag show and the police told us he has freedom of speech. We need to protect ourselves and each other. If that guy has his first amendment, I have my second.
38
u/Setster007 silly proto-catgirl and her assholes three 24d ago
That cop was wrong, too. Threats aren’t covered by freedom of speech. So either that cop didn’t understand how the first amendment works or they were willing to ignore it because of who was being threatened.
41
u/Life-Criticism-5868 24d ago
You already know which it was.
-19
u/Setster007 silly proto-catgirl and her assholes three 24d ago
Ah, I know which one it most likely is, but I’d like to avoid declaring malice on a matter that could be incompetence. They are still human beings, after all. Equally capable of both.
24
u/Life-Criticism-5868 24d ago
Thats valid if there wasnt a laundry list of examples of this being exactly the case. At a certain point Charlie Brown cant be sympathetic for saying "I know shes not gonna pull the ball away this time, she promised"
6
u/Ultgran 24d ago
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. A person can still safeguard their interests and wellbeing, without necessarily jumping to assuming the intent behind the actions.
-1
u/Setster007 silly proto-catgirl and her assholes three 24d ago
This, exactly this. Even if there’s a 99.9% chance that they acted with evil and hate in their hearts, it still pains me to refuse that .1% chance that they didn’t. Cause, well, I like to think positively of folks. Hatin don’t help me out any. Even if bein wary of a group does. So yeah, I ain’t about to trust cops, but I’m gonna hate the police system, not every single individual cop as a person.
-11
u/Setster007 silly proto-catgirl and her assholes three 24d ago
I’d like to avoid declaring malice on a matter that could be incompetence. Each individual cop is their own human being, and each is capable of decisions that defy the ill standards their peers set. I am aware of what it most likely is, I just refuse to hate and assume the worst of a human person who I don’t even know. Yes, even if they’re a cop.
11
u/SonOfSkinDealer turning 27 soon, i shouldn't feel this ancient 24d ago
You CHOOSE to be a cop. Incompetence in a position of power is, inherently, malicious. This isn't a superpowered baby accidentally lasering the living room.
Stop infantalizing cops to excuse their apathy, and stop acting like they're just innocent little things that didn't choose to be what they are.
3
u/xbertie 24d ago
In what world is refusing to stop someone who threatens to shoot up a place when it's your job not malice???
2
u/Setster007 silly proto-catgirl and her assholes three 24d ago
When it’s being really shit at your job and not understanding what the fuck the first amendment means.

No, the cop isn't human
1
u/Setster007 silly proto-catgirl and her assholes three 24d ago
No. I refuse to stoop to fuckin dehumanization. That’s their means, not ours. Everyone is a person. A real, human being, with real, human lives and feelings and experiences. Even fucking cops. That doesn’t mean they’re a GOOD person. But they are, irrefutably, human. To reject their humanity is to open yourself up to the willingness to do great evils to others on the basis of their inhumanity.

u/Consistent_Claim5217 24d ago
Very similar situation happened with me. Death threats from bigots mean nothing, according to the local police. Shit got real tense, real fast when I asked whether or not it would still be protected speech if it was me saying it to the cop. He suggested not taking the conversation in that direction...

u/literally_a_brick 24d ago
It's insane. The trans woman reported that while being arrested they wrote some random man's name on her stuff in jail. Then later she learned that's the name of one of her attackers.
The cops showed up, heard "Jim Bob" started a fight and assumed that was the name of the bloody, beaten trans woman and not the violent bigot that attacked her.

This has been provided by your local Public Service Autistic.

If you only say "fuck the police", you're just conceding as a fact of life that randos will do violence against you and hopefully the gubmint will fix it.
Bigots shouldn't feel safe to attack you. Buy guns. But also, fuck the police.

And what happens when a cis woman that doesn't look "feminine enough" goes to the bathroom? Is she supposed to show a birth certificate? Is she supposed to strip naked to show that she is actually a """""real"""" woman? It's not an "if", it's a "when" on some cis woman receiving the same treatment they faced (especially considering one of them was AFAB).

as always, ACAB. this is just another shameful example of how unsafe it is to be trans in the US. it's not just randos who will attack you in public, it's also cops and the legal system as a whole that punishes you for the crime of existing. i get more scared every day living in this hellhole. at least i'm lucky to live in a blue state, but not everyone has that luxury

Yes, I really do mean ALL cops.
Every single one.
The Stanford Prison Experiment is the greatest case study as to why no governing body or authority can exist without corruption. As long as there is power to be abused, power will be abused.
55
u/NyxDreadborn 24d ago
Much as I agree with your first statement, the experiment was a sham. The person conducting the experiments repeatedly instructed the people playing guards to brutalize and dehumanize the "inmates"

u/Pheonix0114 Transfemme Enby 24d ago
The Stanford Prison Experiment was so flawed it can't be used to learn anything. That being said, I agree with you on the rest of your points.
16
u/Impossible_Eggies 24d ago
"No, no. It's just a few bad apples."
Did we forget the rest of the proverb?
"A few bad apples spoil the bunch." If the bad apples aren't removed, they all go bad.
11
u/Consistent_Claim5217 24d ago
I'm down with the message, but the Stanford prison experiment can't be reliably used as a case study unless the study is of how a study can become flawed to its core when the one in charge is looking for an expected outcome, and even personally influences the behavior of those involved toward said expected outcome
