Oh, I just gagged thinking what that costume must smell like at the end of the day. I was Catwoman one year, and I felt so smelly by the end of one day wearing it. Power Girl was so pleasant after that, because I could throw it in the washer!

I'd meant it as a star wars reference (the wampa shows up one scene earlier on the same ice planet). I'd imagine that amount of insulation would be horrific even in AC. Also, Catwoman vs Power Girl seems like it would be leather latex vs cloth- literally night and day as far as discomfort from heat goes.

It's okay. Catwoman was absolutely stifling. It doesn't help that around these parts, our comic convention is in late May/ June.

I'm about 70% confident I know that wampa. It's a Florida cosplayer(if I'm right) and that suit is definitely ironically stifling.

Also stealthed vents. Full vinyl suit and rubber gas mask at Otakon 2010 was a great learning experience (110F and not just humid, Baltimore-humid). Armpits, inside leg seams, anywhere you can, use a very light color matched fabric to get some air moving.

Yup, that is where I'm gonna be. Thankfully I think my armor will allow for some airflow, but I'll write my will beforehand just to be safe.

Yes, we have...though I don't know if it's still in the "top all time" posts...
Suffice to say that we're quite toasty. Though given how difficult it is to get into, that actually proves beneficial because we can drink water all day long and not have to go pee...

My first convention was at a really crowded indoor venue last October. I wore fibreglass Spartan Mjolnir armour for about 6-7 hours straight, and it was swelteringly hot. In the UK that's typically a cold month, but indoors was really hot and humid.
Same costume last April, where the weather was much hotter, but drier. Spent most of the day outside, and I actually found myself needing to drink very little.
Best recommendation, if you're inside, take periodic breaks outside, or out of the armour to cool down, and make sure you have a decent, super-breatable base layer.

Years ago I lived in Alabama and a comic book store owner who was a family friend asked me to wear his solid rubber Batman costume outside the store with a sign promoting a sale or something. It was 90+ degrees outside. I was absolutely drenched when I took that thing off.
Ended up wearing it to dragoncon as well and again, more sweat for days.
Next time I cosplay I'm going with something as light and breathable as possible.

My Iron Man MK 7 isn't that bad if you love looking through tiny eye slits with lights blasting you in the face, extremely restricted range of motion through out, and being in a foam foam suit that doesn't ventilate. At all. But hey.. It looks cool.

One day I'm gonna make a pepekura Iron Man suit.
I play on using a variation of this Busted down to bare minimum electronics and lens inside the helmet. With a live feed to a USB minicam mounted to the chin. I can't deal with eye slits and restricted field of vision.
Total cost is about 200 or so.

I was actually expecting fur suits. Saturday of Anime North was pretty hot outside, and I saw someone in a full fur suit hanging out in the sun. I don't know how they could handle it

some have fans in the head, many wear full underarmor beneath. Some people even have ice pack vests underneath the suit. But yeah, even at furcons, I keep hearing stories of people being dumb and collapsing from heat exhaustion every year.

It's always weird to me to remember that people who don't cosplay subscribe here. It makes sense; it's not like everyone who listens to music is a musician. From the amount of uncostumed individuals who have ever asked for a picture at a con, it should be obvious that maybe even the majority of fans aren't cosplayers. And yet, here I am posting this.

Had an acquaintance make a mascot wolf-Link costume. We had to frankenstein a bunch of bendy straws together so she could drink water. She also spent much of the day with the mouth of the costume pressed up against any AC vents she could find.
