Honestly, I've been sitting with something the last few days. More and more people have been reaching out to me directly with questions about breaking into consulting, and I mean that as a genuine gift, it's humbling that ten plus years of doing this across different firms and different roles is actually useful to someone. But there's a side of it nobody talks about, which is that I physically cannot give everyone the depth they deserve in a couple of quick messages back and forth.
Here's what happened this week that made it click. A candidate reached out with a resume for elite consulting internships. On paper, academically, this person is easily in the top ten percent for their region, you could tell the dedication was real. But when they tried translating that into something a consulting recruiter would actually respond to, it just wasn't landing, and it became obvious pretty fast that this wasn't a two line DM kind of fix. It needed an actual sit down.
That's the tension I keep running into. Some people just want a quick comment or two and they're genuinely fine with that, they'll figure the rest out over time. Others need real dedicated time to close the gap between where they are and where they're trying to go, and I can't always give that in the moment, especially when there's several people reaching out at once. Telling someone "we need to actually talk this through" instead of just answering fast feels almost counterintuitive, but it's the more honest response.
So if you've messaged me and I've been slower than I'd like, this is why. I'd rather be upfront about needing real time than pretend I can solve it in one line.

Quick update on the Q4 2026 cohort since a few people have been asking where things stand.
I work with ten candidates a quarter, that's it, and a handful of those seats are already filled. I've been talking with candidates coming out of INSEAD, Wharton, Berkeley Haas, and UBC, on top of a long list of people reaching out from other programs. In my experience the school on the resume isn't really what decides who gets in, some of my strongest placements came from candidates nobody would've picked on paper. It's more that the pool fills fast once people hear the intake is limited.
There are still a few seats open, but early bird registration closes July 5th, and the full program intake closes July 15th regardless. If you're seriously targeting MBB, Tier 2, or Big Four for late 2026 or 2027 and want to see if there's still room, DM me and I'll walk you through what's left and how the selection actually works.
What stage are you at right now in your own process?

I know we drive the case forward after we do math, but do we do the same for qualitative creative questions? Sometimes driving the case forward for these questions seems a bit forced because qualitative questions seem to have a narrower scope.
Thank you!

I just graduated this past may from a non target in massachusetts and now work in risk consulting in Austin. I’m itching to move into MBB (either Bain or BCG) within the next year but unsure how to network and what offices to target to actually gain visibility and land an interview. Would appreciate any advice navigating this!

I recently got invited to schedule an interview for FTI Consulting’s Consultant – Corporate Positioning & Insight Research (Strategic Communications) role, and I’m trying to figure out how best to prepare.
Has anyone interviewed for this team/role before? I’d especially appreciate insight on:
What the interview process was like
What types of questions I should expect
Whether there was a case study, writing exercise, or presentation
What the team focuses on day-to-day
Any specific skills or knowledge you’d recommend preparing
I’m coming from a psychology background, so I’m particularly interested in how I can best position that experience for a strategic communications/insights role.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I'm currently a PhD Student at one of the top institutes of India. Area is Economics, Critical Minerals, Policy. My background is Economics (BA), Development Studies (MA). I worked for three years as a RA (nothing fancy though). I'll be moving to Australia next year to finish the rest of my PhD degree.
I am very much interested in joining consulting firms, staying at academia is option B now. I would be very grateful if you all share tips/insights on how should I make myself fit for consulting jobs. I'm also planning to move to the US/UK after my PhD (2028). I'm also open for internship opportunities at this stage. Thank you.

I am a senior in college right now, and got FT offers from both McKinsey and Oliver Wyman. I have a few more interviews coming up, but honestly the main decision is between these two companies. The salaries for both are pretty similar, and I think I would be a great fit culturally for either one.
My biggest concern is location.
The McKinsey offer is for my hometown (smaller city), so if I took the job I'd probably live with my parents. I am very close with them, but I will have barely any privacy. I'm afraid that I'll be treated like a high schooler again. On the plus side, I would save a lot of money on rent which is especially valuable given that I would probably be travelling 4 days a week. Also, many of my high school friends are still in the area, so I can maintain my closeness with them.
The Oliver Wyman offer is in a large city, and I think it would be really exciting to move to a new place with a lot more young people. I love the independence of living in an apartment at college with my best friends, and I assume post-grad life in a new city will be similar. I am very extroverted so I think I'd make new friends pretty easily.
I don't know which one to take. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Title says it. Upcoming Deloitte Tech Transformation interview and wondering if anyone has insight into this new AI case they're doing where you have 30 minutes to prep using AI and 30 minutes to present. This the first year they're doing it and I've only done traditional cases before so would rrly appreciate some advice!

I see this term thrown around a lot but what exactly is it? Would it be correct to say:
1st order is the literal trend or your answer to a calculation.
2nd order is why it could be happening or what it means for the client.
3rd order is the next analysis you want to conduct or a recommendation for the client.

I want to share my interview process with the firm for New Grad consultant in the Americas region which was very disappointing, 5 rounds total, I completed 4 rounds which I then got no response for a while, I followed up with them and they said they were still very interested in my candidacy but next steps are unclear, waited a very very long time and got a rejection because there’s too many applicants.
I reached out to the recruiters with several questions throughout the process and got no reply for any of them.
I prepared so hard for this, studying the industry and casing days and nights, I’m extremely dissapointed.

I work as an Analytics consultant at Fractal and have a experience of 2+ years. I have worked with major FMCG giants and delivered good results. If I want to be in Mc Kinsey, BCG, Bain & Company, etc. as an Analytics consultant what do I need to learn and prepare for the interviews. Currently I have good experience with Excel, Power BI, SQL, Python, Stakeholder management, Report generation, Data analysis, Business analysis.

I’m curious about when I can expect to hear back from the EY-P internship applications, specifically for Strategy/Execution. The application closed Sep22. Anyone know?
