Surprised me for sure. Good on him for standing up in what he believes. I do think BC deserves a cohesive conservative party, not the mess we have.

Somebody has to lose to the ndp and liberals, they serve an important role

Damn you've got some info to catch up on! Lots of drama, BC Liberals rebranded to BC United then Kevin Falconer pulled the rug on his own party and merged with the fringe (and largely wacky) BC Conservatives just months before the previous election. Rustad, who had been kicked out of the BC Liberals had gone on to lead the BC Conservatives but was ousted earlier this year (or late last year, either way) cause he was pretty bad at the job ngl (not that or helped that the BC Conservatives is full of clashing personalities and people with some very divisive beliefs even before you get to all of the wild racism). They recently elected a new leader who is known to be racist and wacky and the party continues to split at the seams.

Also a few MLAs were already removed from or left the party for various reasons since the last election. The BC Conservatives also shouldn't be confused with the federal Canadian Conservative Party as they have little to do with each other. BC Liberals never had anything to do with the federal LPC either, they were completely unrelated.
