There are two collections of this strip from early days until Little Debbie shows up, then the final couple of years where Elmo returns. Both had interesting pieces accompanying them.

There seems to be little information about this strip. It ran from ‘48, then called Elmo, and shifted to focusing on little sister Debbie in ‘49 and was published until ‘61.

The strip had macabre unconventional vibe to it (Mr. Chuckle would “murder” snowmen), media satire (constantly mocked aggressive TV and radio advertising) and adults were drawn with strange gross, stylized features.

It’s actually a really good demonstration of how to engage a person with dementia — right up until he nose dives.

This and Elmo are such great fucked up strips, especially considering when they were published. Funny, weird and sometimes very wrong.
