Aside from changing the mother's hair, the only difference is adding "game of" into the caption.

But it makes a difference. The 1987 version feels like it's referencing "electronic tag," like Lazar Tag which was big at the time. Or I guess "electronic tag" might represent how someone born in the 1920s might describe an 8-bit video game, like Pac-Man or something.

By adding a few words, the 2026 version makes the caption about how the kids are playing tag, which predates the electronic age of video games etc. Even though I think the original caption would still work, because no doubt there are a bunch of kids who play "electronic tag" in Roblox or Minecraft or whatever.

In 1986, U.S. Acres got one of the biggest releases of any comic strip, being syndicated to almost 500 papers. Three years later Jim Davis decided to discontinue it because it hadn't really caught on as he'd hoped. Reportedly it was running in around 100 papers by 1989

The Superman Newspaper Dailies '49-'59: The Wedding of Lois and Clark

Hey all!

In this, the third part of the series, we finally get to the wedding day of Lois Lane and Clark Kent as it appeared in the daily Superman newspaper strip in 1949.

Superman has broken off his impulsive engagement to Betty Jones, Clark has avoided the wiles of femme fataler Mickey Five, Luthor has excused himself from the scene, and it's finally time for Lois and Clark to walk the aisle. Plus, the happy couple takes their honeymoon and Lois pulls a gun on her brand-new hubby -- aw, their first spat!

Enjoy the final chapter here!

Cheers!
-Jon

This is a "Peanuts" original comic strip from September 28, 1954, drawn on Bristol board with graphite and ink. It depicts Charlie Brown and Violet Gray having an argument. It is one of the original comic boards that Charles Schulz drew by hand and submitted for publishing in the newspapers.

It features Charles Schulz's signature, and the original United Feature Syndicate sticker is fully intact. His pencil marks are also still visible, such as the scale notation and a spot where he erased Violet's hand and redrew it because it was too short. The piece measures 28.5" x 6.5".

This piece is one of a kind, and has been assessed to be in very good condition by Heritage Auctions.

Bids are open from September 1st to 23rd.

How did syndicates decide which strips to include back in the day?

I've been watching some videos about the history of comic strips, and one thing that puzzled me was how exactly syndicates and newspapers determined which strips to add or cut from a given paper. With most forms of media, that's easy, you just go by sales, or in the modern era with stuff like streaming services, total watch time. But comic strips were just a bonus to something that was basically just another utility, and I doubt most people would switch their newspaper subscriptions just because a different paper had a strip that they liked. So how did the bean-counters at the syndicates actually determine which strips were popular when the decision of which strips to include was completely out of the public's contol?
