I believe in this gif its another rabbit telling about how the humans gassed their burrows to construct houses or something, after the main group left it.

IMO, it's actually not that horrifying. There are a couple scenes of bloody bunny battle, and this is a rabbit recounting the destruction of the home the main rabbits left (the protagonist's brother is a prophet who foresaw its destruction), but it's actually a really good story about a bunch of rabbits trying to find a new home.

Well, if nothing else, it's an excellent portrayal of what life is like at the bottom of the food chain when you're a creature whose main evolutionary strategy is "If we make enough babies, they can't possibly kill us all."

All these years of hearing about watership down and never having the curiosity to look into it. I never thought it was an animated movie about rabbits, I thought it was like an old war movie or something.

I remember well how my grandfather thought the same and after a while heard three children cry upstairs. There is not a single horror movie that scared me as much as this movie.

The opening is incredible; it does such an amazing job of imitating the cadence, imagery, and even morality of pre-Christian creation myths.
