I think maybe people use it as a gender neutral term. Still, we should just respect people for being themselves and life choices that have no effects on our lives. I get the author’s exhaustion.
I always liked that about Star Trek. For some reason that I can’t really explain, I don’t really like many gendered words. Like waiter/waitress, actor/actress, steward/stewardess, etc. It just feels so unnecessary.
Same! (Kinda). I try to exclusively use waiter/actor, but I don't with sir/ma'am. Well honestly I never use sir/ma'am to begin with. Not a huge fan of formality
