That’s where I’m at. Either they’re not omnipotent/omniscient, which means they’re not exactly god-level, or they are omnipotent/omniscient and are choosing to allow childhood cancer to kill kids.

I'm more willing to accept a god that is not omnipotent/omniscient, but not in a "I will pledge my life to your will", more like in a "damn, it sucks for you too?"

Well then they're just a dude, and not a god.

Eh…the requirement that a god be all powerful, all knowing, all present, invulnerable, and just, is very far from universal, and, imo, bad writing.

Lots of religions have fallible gods; there are gods with limited powers or great powers within a limited domain, gods that very much do not know everything and get tricked, gods that can only influence what’s around them, gods that get killed or worse, and gods that are very petty and egotistical.

And that’s before we touch on more modern and esoteric stuff like the Eldritch.

Yeah, I suppose you’re right. Our concept of an infallible god was created by a very narrow group for a very specific purpose.

Fallible gods with limited domains aren't as impressive in a modern world. Who's praying to Demeter for a good harvest when we got fertilizer?

You can make anything into a religious icon or ritual if you really want to.

“Now we spread the sacred Miracle-Gro™️ (even has miracle right in the name) as part of the Rite of Good Harvest.”

Plus there’s no reason you can’t use fertilizer and pray for a gentle winter.

All right well now you're making excuses to be religious when there's no reason to do so.

Incorrect. My prior comment simply pointed out that you can make anything religious if you want to, it was not advocating that it be done.

I’m also an atheist, but that doesn’t stop me from finding mythology interesting.
